Adaptive Training Closed Beta Update

Are you getting what you want from Train Now? I was generally content with it until they added the ‘Recommended’ tag to the three prescribed workouts recently. I was meant to do a 1:30 threshold ride today and it’s recommending a 1hr ride with a lower IF than Pettite. Not sure what I’m meant to take from that

My ‘recommended’ ride was also the easy ride, after 3 days of easy rides (not on a plan). I figured it would choose some intensity for me.

I noticed that it has gotten “stuck” a couple times over the last few days. Selecting a different workout duration and then switching back to the desired duration seems to unstick it. See if that works for you, otherwise maybe the system just really wants you to do endurance work.

was added to the beta last week. And I really like all the changes so far. I think there was a brief discussion of workout progression levels in the podcast, but I don’t know the final outcome. I’m training for Summer fondos now and I’m hand picking stretch workouts after I zeroed out the prog levels with a ramp test. Did stretch threshold today. It wasn’t easy. Looking for a SS stretch workout and I find out that Round Bald -1 and Seneca Rocks, two identical workouts, have 3.5 and 3.8 prog levels, respectively. Why the difference? maybe a S/W bug?

They aren’t the same, different calories. Seems like the warmup is different. Not sure it’s enough to be 0.3 difference though but at least enough that the ranking would see them as different

Rest interval is 10% higher which is likely the reason

Out of 3,000? 10,000? 50,000…ow well, I guess I will get in when it’s officially rolled out. :joy: :joy: Keep up the good work. :fist:

@csirles Can confirm, along what the warmup being slightly higher. This raises the overall TSS and levels a bit. Cheers!

I feel it’s disingenuous to not include how many people have signed up. The updates we receive, while appreciated, with how many athletes have received invites is only telling half of the story.

Is 945 athletes a lot? Well, that depends. Out of 2,000? Yes. Out of 15,000? Not so much.

As you said, we will continue to wait until we are either chosen by the almighty random algorithm, or AT gets released.

I do find it a little annoying that this was announced over two-months ago and many of us signed up within days of AT being announced. Yet after 2+ months of waiting there is still not much news as to when AT will be released to the masses. After all, everyone pays the same subscription fee, and aren’t receiving the same service.

Does not being able to use AT (I’m aware of the Train Now stuff) hamper my training? No. Not really. Am I disappointed that this isn’t handled better after watching the excellent promotional videos and pod casts created by TR. Yes.

I’ll announce how many people are in the beta each podcast. As of now there are 956.

As that number gets bigger and we let more and more in we will probably stop announcing that number. We also won’t share the total number.

That’s because it’s a “trade secret” as lame as that sounds.

Imagine if you were a competitor and we said the total list had any of these numbers:
100
1,000
10,000
100,000
1,000,000
10,000,000

Based on that you could judge pretty quickly if you think you should try to copy AT or not. It would be pretty easy to gauge the success or not.

Maybe I’m just being paranoid, but I would love to get these sorts of insights for our competitor’s launches.

Makes sense.
Good to see you back.

Totally makes sense not to reveal this number from a competition standpoint.

Any update on releasing the progression levels to everyone? For those of us, like me, that really know nothing about software development, the delay on this is a bit puzzling. From the outside it seems pretty straightforward to do this.

The progression levels would be really helpful for those of us still on the beta waiting list and likely still will be for the foreseeable future.

Thanks!!!

Thank you for the clarification, @Nate_Pearson.

Much appreciated.

They could have just got on with a beta without anyone knowing about it by inviting users privately but I guess it would have soon leaked (people just love to talk).
I guess they were in a no win situation but wanted to announce their plan. Nate often talks about whether or not he should reveal new ideas before they’re ready for universal release.

But they needed to be seen by all with a positive response to THAT video

Which video?

I thought that was what you were referring to but wondered where the AT link was.

I think this is the key part. Will AT make you faster? I guess so over the long term, by taking into account riders good/bad days and weeks, otherwise TR wouldn’t have spent 3 yrs developing it.

However I’d argue it’s not some magic silver bullet that will give you +35 watts, you (we) still have to do the hard workouts regularly, sleep well, eat well, etc.

Of course my opinion is based on ignorance as I’m not in the Beta, maybe (hopefully) I’ll be surprised when it’s my turn

@IvyAudrain Are the progression levels for the various workouts set now, or might they change? I am seeing screenshots from AT users with workouts and their progression level. Can I take what I am seeing as a reliable figure. (I am using what I am gleening to get a sense of my own progression level, and assessing workout difficultys, even though I am not yet in AT).

Obviously a few might get refined, but in general are these progression level scores pretty stable now?

Thanks
