A Time Trialing Thread

Thank you @JoeriN for your information.

Nice that you are participating too. I hope you will get your targets!

nice position!

Position looks good, just try to focus on looking through your eyebrows and up the road rather than down at the front wheel, that will help to keep your helmet down at the back, but it does take practice.

Yes I understand what you mean. I also practice this a lot on the indoor trainer where I film myself from the side and project it on the screen in front of me.

Like this:

That is a great tip. I’m going to totally steal that idea.

Yes it works great with a laptop, tv and long hdmi cable. Put the laptop on the side and project the screen on your tv in front of you with the HDMI cable. I use the free OBS studio program for filming myself. (you can project and film at the same time.

Sometimes i use Zwift and OBS studio at the same time…I cut the screen in 2.

That is a great idea… can you use multiple cameras at once? I’d benefit with a head on shot as well as the side.

I dont know if it is possible to use 2 camera’s…i use 1 camera a time…

Love that set up. I tried similar during lockdown when I had my home office set up pointing in the direction of my turbo! Never did it properly though.

Have you found it helps on the road?

Today i did the 42km timetrial what I talked about last week. It went very well with the great tips from @GregElwell

I did it in 59:13, 42.7 avg speed and 24e/241 place.
Enjoyed it from start to finish! Suffer with a smile is always easier.

Lap 1: 19:17 and 274w
Lap 2: 19:18 and 271w
Lap 3: 19:20 and 272w

Very consistent pacing!

I’ve got my first 40k next weekend. A closed road out and back.

I’ll see you there! I haven’t run a 40k for like 5 years so it might get long lol

Joe

I have a question which I’ve not come across.

I have a TT next week and the weather is forecasted to be raining.

With roads wet, what will be faster, a GP5000 or Vittoria Corsa Speed/Velofex Record. All are non-tubless with latex, same inflated size front wheel.

I’m curious. I think the more aero GP5000 loses its aero advantages in the rain so the low crr tyres will be faster.

Can anyone point to anything science based about this?

Not sure what the course is like, but the Veloflex and Corsaspeed both have bad wet grip in my experience. Something else to think about…

Of course I find something that answers this just after posting.

In short, the lower crr makes the decision.

I have been running the GP5000 happily this season thus far on a course that’s fairly rough.

I’m still interested in anything of note about impact of rain.

Course is about as simple as it gets, just a turn around to worry about.

For your information…
I had half an aero water bottle with me, but didn’t need it

does anyone here know how to shorten the seat post of a Giant trinity a few inches? Is that simply said with a hacksaw?

I assume the CRR of tires is different in dry and wet conditions and without that data it’s a gamble. All of those tires are within a few watts, personally I would choose the option that gets you safely and confidently to the finish line.

To finish first, first you must finish!

This, 100%.
