A Time Trialing Thread

It doesnt say what Unit it is, but I would have guessed watts incl. a rider for a very high speed (60km/h maybe). It cant be cdA, the numbers are way too big, it cant be Watts for bike alone, except they tested at 100km/h+, or am I missing anything?

Maybe ā€žgrams of dragā€œ?
Although I find the unit questionable, 50g of drag is 6.5W at 30mph.
That would be some 80W for the bike without rider at 48kph/ 30mph.
If the bike is 20-25% of the total drag, that would be:
320 to 400W at that speed, not great but more realistic

But the red line is redder than the grey lines, so it must be faster right?!

Red is always faster…always.

A few alterations to the current set up.
Set the geometry up to UCI legal and it works quite well so far.
The AC cockpit accommodates my wrists just a lot better than the Wattshop one did. This is a personal thing of course, but I need the sharper bend.
Also, I am currently trying out the Repente magnet saddle and so far, I like it very much. Very comfortable and easy to stay in position on.
Current position also seems to work with various helmets (and sweatpants):

Looks good, you just seem to roll your back a little. Guess you cannot go anymore forward due to UCI rules to maybe try and straighten the back this way?
The saddle is one of those with a longer ā€œtailā€ that, in theory, helps the airflow after the body and reduces drag this way?

I can only go forward another 11mm on the front, and the cockpit only allows for 15mm jumps, so that would only work at a steeper angle.
Also, I have a terrible posture, so a rounded back is actually quite natural for me.

Looks solid! How do you like the Drone? I assume it’s much more comfortable compared to the tempor.

My Mistral has never misted up but the predecessor (Bambino Pro) was terrible for it. The visor shape/ front vents are identical but the visor seems to have different coatings

Internet buzz suggests that the aerohead is a faster helmet but that said the only person I know who tested properly (I can’t remember if it was a track day or tunnel), tested faster with the mistral

A guy I follow on IG just did a back to back with the Aerohead Ultimate vs Mistral and found the Mistral to be ~7w faster (not sure what that was in terms of %), but he did say the result could be very personal.

My buddy just tested a couple weeks ago and he was 3w faster @30mph with a MET Codatronca compared to the Aerohead.

I’d say that’s pretty negligible then. < 1% for what it takes me to sustain 30mph.

For the folks that have the Mistral, what size? @RJones07 @Majoeric - are you able to share? I hear rumours people are using the largest sized helmet with extra foam…
In the Dan Bigham interview with Peak Torque on Youtube, Dan says he swapped from POC to Mistral because of the skinsuit; one worked better when faired by the helmet, the other with cleaner flow. Which suggests things are more complex (who knew?) and proper testing is needed once the easy wins are gone.

I’m a bit surprised with my result (sadly only one data point) with the Mistral; when I look at photos of me racing in the Aerohead, it looks like there are big improvements to make. Maybe I’ll set up some photos inside, like @Aeroiseverything and see what the collective view is.

I don’t think the Tempor is particularly uncomfortable. Only issue with it is the super short visor. To make it work, I would probably need to run it with glasses (like Dowsette did)

Helmets and front lights now compulsory for CTT events in UK in 2022… just passed at CTT AGM.

(rear light already compulsory).

I knew they were likely to make helmets compulsory but I never realised they were also looking to make front lights compulsory too.

Including helmets for hill climbs?

Yes & lights.

Has anyone in the forum participated in wind tunnel testing?
