I have the 1up 2 bike rack with the additional +2 bike add on (for a total of 4 bikes). It works and I’ve driven 7 hours with this setup.
Maybe you’re referring to something else, but their website shows which of their racks officially support up to 4 bikes.
Did some more research and waiting to get the equip d when it comes in. Only marginally more expensive than the quick rack and from hitch to end in the storage position only 0.5 inches longer.
More than likely get the 2 bike vs the 1 and add on model so I don’t have to mess about with taking the other bike stand off/on and it is cheaper as well. Might need to get the license plate holder though as I plan to keep the rack on mostly which is a little extra but looks very functional.
Thanks! When I’d looked in the past that was very much not the info I’d found. My buddy had even called them at the time (probably last summer) and heard otherwise. This is better
You end up getting the Equip-D? Curious how you’re liking it if so. I’ve heard they can be a bit more wobbly than the original design.
Anyone else have feedback on the original vs Equip-D?
I bought an Equid-D for my parents, they don’t ride in the winter so I haven’t installed it or tried it out yet, but when I do I’ll report back. I’d be surprised if it’s wobbly though, same hitch mount attachment from what I can tell. I have an OG 1up on my car so I can and will compare the two.
Love the equip d. Got the double as it was the same size in the upright position vs the single and add on. I also got the chain, locks and if I had to buy again would definitely do it.
Yeah, nothing new to add except my 1up rack (single, black) is awesome
I love my 1 up, but there are two potential issues. First, there is no hitch pin, so it is possible that the rack could come out of the hitch. They now provide a Velcro strap to be a back up, just in case. I assume a rack mustve fallen off sometime for them to stat saying you should use a strap. 2nd, since the rack holds your bike by compressing on its tires, if you put a bike on there and a tire goes flat during your trip, it won’t be held on the rack to securely…not sure if it would fall off or not, but it certainly would be shaking a bunch. For the years ive had my rack, ive had zero issues. But i thought i just share two possible drawbacks.
I’ve shared both those concerns as well but like you I’ve had no issues. I do remember thinking that the ball design on the hitch attachment seemed too good to be true but it does work. 1up does recommend checking the main bolt every month or so. After dealing with hitch pins for years I was happy to forego that with the 1up. I’ve had tires go flat while on the rack, and obviously less than ideal the bike was still secure enough, certainly something to be aware of though. I’ve still yet to see a better rack design.
Thanks all, ended up going with a heavy duty double since we plan on eventually expanding this to 4 bikes, and even though I doubt we’ll ever have to haul 4 35+ lb bikes I feel more comfortable being well under the stated limit.
