This is what it boils down to….without outside investment (which Nate always seemed opposed to), TR was only going to grow so much. An acquisition was almost inevitable at some point.
I kept saying “in a recent podcast Nate talked about licensing and partnerships, moving on, etc”. I guess it must have been in that Fitt one, which is why no one was replying “true”. Now I know why, I was the only one who listened to it!
1998 graphics yet it hammers my gfx card like a 2022 AAA title!
My hopes if this happen is that zwift and TR stay stand alone products for the time being with the option to import all trainerroad workouts into zwift. Meanwhile zwift figures out it’s UI and then eventually they can be combined into one product. Even then I’d like the option to ride in the virtual worlds or go with blue bars. That way the people who want the blue bars will be happy while the people who use both right now are also happy. I just don’t trust Zwift to integrate TR well. They can hardly push updates without breaking other things.
Time to opening laptop and starting a trainerroad workout is SOOOOOO much faster than starting up zwift and getting into the world.
+2 to TR
I can’t stand Zwift. All I can hope for in an acquisition is more of a partnership where TR still exists on its own.
Like how CyclingTips is owned by Outside now.
This is why I’m confused about this apparent sloppiness with the social media & Strava activity that’s driving a lot of the speculation. Silence and NDAs are usually needed for deals like this, so you’d think they’d be more careful not to telegraph moves. Maybe there’s nothing to it or it’s just that, sloppiness.
Wonder if we will start getting trainer road named climbs? Alpe D’ Trainer Road… Are they also going to start naming us ‘trainer roaders’? Do we now have to go on a facebook page after every sesh and ask if our ftp is good? Im scared…
Is it sloppiness though? Essentially what was documented was someone following someone else on Strava, joining a Strava club, and an Instagram post of a hotel window picture in Reno. All innocuous stuff. My point is someone had to take a very deep dive to put the puzzle pieces together so I wouldn’t call this sloppy.
But yet some people still think no one would dive into someone’s easily accessible training data that gets posted on Strava…
@Power13 Are you referring to the TR executive who does workouts on Zwift? If so I am not sure how that is revealing. I imagine a lot of employees (who are cyclists) use both TR and Zwift. While Zwift may technically be a competitor in some form I doubt the platform is taboo or banned to TR employees?
Nope, pretty sure he’s talking about the Strava + Progression Level pic fiasco.
Yup…what @mcneese.chad said.
@Power13 on my part. I am sorry. Sorry so much happening in TR world in the last 24 hours so I made the mistake of inferring.
What if all these high level execs are just friends and like to use each others platforms? Just dudes and dudettes being bros.
What did I miss here? Link?
I’m nominating @killroy123 for thread MVP.
LOL…no issues. Definitely a crazy few days. Threads blowing up left, right and center!!
