Zone 2 Endurance session after a Zwift race

Hey Guys/Ladies

I have a question about doing mu scheduled endurance sessions after a Zwift race. In example I did stage 3 of the Zwift Games this morning and I am thinking to do my scheduled 1 hr endurance session now that my heart rate etc is back to normal from the race effort. What are you thoughts on this and what are the potential issues. Thanks

Absolutely no problem doing this, IMO, assuming recovery is managed.

It can be a good way to get into your larger motor units as you’re pre-fatigued. Kinda like you’re riding hour 3 of a 3 hour endurance ride.

What is the goal behind doing the endurance ride or is it just about following the training plan?

Assuming you went hard in the race , the endurance ride won’t add much but it will interfere with recovery. If you have a high weekly load then I’d do a short recovery spin, if not I would simply rest, go for a walk or splash in the pool.

They’re only about 30 minutes. Less taxing than, say 2 × 10 at threshold watts. Adding an hour of endurance probably makes the combined rides something like Cloudripper-2 ie a reasonable “hard day”.

All good, assuming this replaces a scheduled hard day, and appropriate recovery is planned.
