sign me up for -1 i guess
I only really use zwift for recovery or endurance where I need a distraction. For the harder stuff I’d generally solo on TR.
i’m not sure if the group ride function on TR still works. But if it does it’s far superior to Zwift. More like a Zoom call with stats and video/audio. My most memorable WWDD was a few years ago while in Beijing. 4 or 5 of us used the group ride function. We’d go silent in the efforts and someone would moderate with encouragement and time call comments. During the rest periods we’d pipe in music and talk shit about whomever and solve the world’s problems. I posted a pic in the forum last year. I’ll see if I can find it.

Maaaaate, this is awesome, love your work!
Not the first time I’ve been called crazy.
That group workout woulda been mad! ![]()
Yeah that’s exactly what I was hoping it would be. Hopefully that’s still possible?
After all these years WWDD deserves a Strava club. Not replacing this forum page. Just making it more visible those who don’t know yet.
The next round of AI-FTP detection was offered to me this morning, so I pressed the cheat button.
The cheat wasn’t the detect FTP button; it was the button that says to reject the offering & keep the existing FTP.
TR wanted to offer me a 2w increase, but no, Disaster’s coming up, & I need all the help I can get!
same.. I’ll probably go in at the same as last year. Less training this year. It’s the fireworks at the end that usually does the most damage
Someone should organize a disaster group workout on Zwift.
Hmm, thinking about doing this! Sounds fun and painful - type 2 or type 3 fun!?!
So if I do this, I might trigger a RL on training plan. Would probably do either of the short versions…
Also, would love to see this group ride feature on TR - didn’t realize it has (or had) one?!
Definitely the sort of thing I want to carve some space around in a plan. I’ll probably do the -1 & it’ll take the place of the week’s threshold workout.
Oh no. I wish I hadn’t read this. Now it’s too late. I have been challenged.
I think I’m in, unfortunately. Full Disaster on Saturday. ![]()
Looks like my work schedule is jammed. I’ll attempt my WWDD ride a bit early on this Thursday 11 Dec. and for those interested. Here’s the facebook page from 2018. https://www.facebook.com/events/295396634393269/
And way back then they even had a T shirt..
Self control:
That takes a special kind of discipline beyond getting on the turbo every day. ![]()
I therefore prescribe thee Obelisk or similar. Or a chill ride on a path or easy trail with a slower family member.
We’re due some rain this weekend, so I may do similar. (All my workouts are outside.) Friday evening’s looking good for me, but I may delay until Saturday morning if the forecast improves.
Thanks for the FB link, that would’ve been mad! ![]()
Well done, great achievement ![]()
Ive had to postpone my Disaster, as got cyclo x race on 14th. Also feeling rubbish with sinusitis after a cold.
So likely to be later in the month
Ooohhhhhh… yes! ![]()

Today’s forecast yesterday was good so I decided not to do it yesterday (Friday) as I’d pondered earlier. Was a relatively hot afternoon yesterday anyway, & I decided I could do with the extra sleep cycle since my last workout on Wednesday.
So Disaster -1 is done. (TR - Strava)
I cut the recoveries down a little between threshold intervals because of time (I wanted to get to parkrun at 9), & also if I didn’t feel properly recovered for the next threshold interval I’d be less inclined to exceed the targets, & more likely to leave something in the tank for the end.
Was feeling it after the third firework, but by the 4th I realised it was either the sprints, or the tempo floats, so I sacrificed the tempo floats to hit the sprints. About 15 minutes before heading out I’d thrown a 3-teaspoon granulated espresso plus 100g of sugar down the hatch, & had consumed about another 250g (half the bottle) before starting the “castle” Z2 section. Effectively 240 grams per hour up to that point so I’m pretty sure I can count out nutrition as the cause of dying in the arse during the fireworks.
Rather, I blame a complete lack of really long sweetspot intervals & minimal work over threshold for the last 14 months. And a lack of racing or hard group rides has very likely made me less inclined to properly put myself in the bin. But I’m okay with that; this year’s been all about that base (16000km so far) so it’ll be good to build on next year.
