WWDD - 2022 Disaster Day!

This actually seems fun. With breaks to eat and drink this could be a good all-day event. I’m in.

What is Fireworks?

That section near the end with the short sprints and SS recovery.

I will track down the guide that has the nicknames.

Just to echo everybody else: Fireworks, far and away. Everything else is manageable. You can do 4x10 threshold when you’re fresh and you can do 6x2 low-ish VO2max when you’re a little tired, but 10 sprints with no real recovery after three hours is an absolute bear. I remember feeling absolutely spent but judicious use of backspins saved me:

Quick practicality question for that we who know; I did -2 last year on my own and am aiming for -1 this year but would like to do it via a group workout.

Last year I needed to take a ‘bio’ break about 2/3 of the way through -so if I have to stop temporarily how does that work with the group ride setup? Do I resume ‘behind’ everyone else or do they also have to stop, or does the connection cut? I don’t want to slow everyone else up but it would be nice to finish at the same time?

I think the workout keeps moving and you rejoin at the same point as everyone else who kept pedaling. Time your bio break for a rest period and you should be fine.

The group I did it with all agreed on a break during the workout

I’ve put it on my calendar for this year. After my race calendar this falling apart for a variety of reasons, this seems like just the type of crazy type 2 fun I need for motivation this fall/early winter.

That’s the winning attitude!

Is the date for this now settled on as being 17 December?

Is there a way to put this in the TR calendar as an A race. I think it needs that sort of preparation (well my last two Disasters did)?

You can just manually add an A-Race and set the Intensity and Duration to hit the approximate TSS. I would think Rolling Road race might one option that makes at least some sense.

Nice idea. I wish there was a better way though  I’ll leave the suggestion around and see who salutes it.

Alternately work through (with just pee breaks) and feel especially smug afterwards

There is zero chance I could do that without dying.

…obviously you have to train for it

Hilarious. On the other hand… why not?

I put it on my calendar for 17 Dec!

I just put it on mine as a B race - Rolling Road Race and set it at “Hard” pace and the TSS matches darn near perfect.

Nonsensical, “Not Recommended” for anyone… Seems like turning it into a party is a moral imperative!
