I’m doing the 4 hour version on Sunday, as heavy rain forecast all day in Southern England.
I’ll probably have TR on my phone and use the bigger sceen on my computer to watch the cyclo cross worlds live on GCN+.
Watching the pros certainly makes me ride harder.
I know I will probably get hot spots on my feet and a sore bum.
Thinking to loosen my shoes in the recovery periods should this happen.
Some time out of the saddle, or a super fast pitstop to change shorts /have a pee break if necessary.
This is my first year of doing it.
What is the punishment for non completion? An ice bath
I dove in headfirst and did the full Disaster without being trained well enough. I took a break every hour or so, stretched, made fresh bottles, hit the bathroom. I finished, but it was serious suffering. Have a plan and have lots of sugar lined up, but don’t be afraid to take a break when you need it. Without them, the last hour is HARD work.
I did Disaster (the 4-hour version) two years ago without a break. If you need a break then the endurance section in the middle(ish) is as good a place as any.
Fireworks sux (sprints after VO2), but that VO2 section was the one that nearly made me quit the one time I did the big dawg. 2nd interval made me question a host of life decisions.
I only got through it with the chat keeping me from a full out bail. Sure is my week spot at least.
Sadly, if my aches are what I think they are, I will be sick this weekend and unable to catch the official week this year
I’m planning for Saturday, but have had a scratchy throat for 2 days now …. But workouts have been solid with HR right in line. No other signs of illness. Fingers crossed for both of us.
