Worried about my event in two weeks

hello. i am a 57 year old cyclist former racer with a gravel event coming up june 2 of 60 miles that i m concerned about

being of this age i do have some mild recurring health issues that i take medication for and my training is monitored/approved by the physician so no concerns there

however i did have a flare up in March that pretty much torched that month and i also have to occasionally alter my days spent training

Due to the march outage, i am a bit concerned about my ability to complete the event and al considering a dry run Sat for mental reasons. Is this not a good idea? thoughts

Feel free to share anything needed from my calendar and files

thanks

greg

I’m sorry to hear about your recent setback.

It’s always hard to be in those situations.

Without knowing too much about your situation, I’d try to remain optimistic about your event.

In terms of trying to get a long ride in between now and then, I definitely wouldn’t push it too much. If you’re going to try to test the body a little bit, I’d shoot for 30-40 miles. If you can do that at an easy effort, somewhat comfortably, there’s a good chance you’ll finish the 60-mile event.

Do they have a shorter distance course you could go for?

Of course, run this by your physician, as I’m not a doctor, but those are my thoughts. :+1:

Best of luck to you!

I’m mid 70’s . Here is what I would do. Go out and do a 40 mile ride . This will tell you if 60 is in the cards. The 40 will not kill your fitness for the event. Remember to not go out too fast. I was told if you can do 80 then you can do 100. So if you can do 40 then you can do 60.
Good luck and have fun.

Perhaps just reframe your aim for the event given you actual fitness?

the difficulty is that the bail out point between the long and short courses is very early in the event @mile 20. This is why i am considering the dry run as i know i will be fine then thus making @eddie 's suggestion of bailing difficult

I think maybe his other idea of spinning an easy 40 may be the path i take as i had already planned on a dialed down pace at the event
