LOL, not the first and I bet it won’t be the last.

I know I don’t mind and am pretty sure Coach is cool with it too :wink:

Done. Fuelled by fig roles and toffees. Two breaks: 1) after 10m threshold intervals to refill bottles, and 2) after VO2 Max intervals to close the chicken coop.

Bit of a crackers workout, but fun! Now pizza and beer.

Inspired by all of you who participated in Worldwide Disaster Day I ended up doing it today, where it fit better with my training (and eating) plans. :wink:

I treated it like a race: tapered and carb’d up a bit and took in caffeine, which I usually don’t do except for races.

It went better than I thought, I was amazed at how fast it went by, probably due to the varied workouts within it. I’d hate to do 4:15 of straight tempo/sweetspot! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

The hardest part for me were the sprints in the second to last section…my legs were getting a little weak and it was a little tricky on rollers. Then even though the last segment was fairly “easy” I couldn’t wait to get it over with. Thanks for the inspiration!

Nice work @Bikr everyone hates those fireworks but looks like you attacked them. Welcome to the disaster club

Great job! It looks like you increased “Castle” (the endurance section in the middle) resulting in higher overall TSS and I.F. Good decision. Some others felt that section was a bit easy. Fireworks was hard (!!!) for almost everyone. and “Little Castle” is a breeze after Fireworks. See survey link at top to see if your assessment of each section was similar to others. Congratulations! :clap: :tada:

Nate posted the info in this thread. I will see if i can find a direct jump, but he hasn’t posted here much, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find.

  • 731 attempts
  • 498 completions with an IF >= .75 (target is .79)
  • 386 completion with an IF >= .79

Those were before the over 50 attempts we had this month.

Interested to hear how long it’s taken Disaster completers to recover? Did it on Saturday and now, two days later, my HRV is still very low (56 compared to a normal of 68). Hoping to be back to normal tomorrow).

How have others recovered?

I brought forward by a week my recovery week of ssb2. I needed the full week too!

The legs felt “musscle wise” felt ok…the tendons and ass not…needed a full week to recover 100%…did some easy outdoor rides though…

I needed 2 full days of nothing after my D -2.

A week from the Big D makes sense.

Recovery: I did one day off, before Disaster. Did Disaster Saturday. left turbo alone Sunday. Did Donner today (Monday).

Definitely felt the session a little in my left knee (from banging bar end when I got out of saddle once) and right hip flexor, that afternoon and next day. But OK ish today (Monday). I knew Donner was a toughy, but went ok.

Recovery food, pasta, tuna, banana, (oh and a little ice cream and mince pies).

Is it really much different to a decent hilly 4 hour ride outside, where those intervals would be mixed together, rather than grouped in structured sets? Probablt a bit, but comparable I expect.

Knees hurt late in the day and next day. I took three full days away from the trainer (only because I was going into a planned recovery week). Nothing special as far as diet goes.

Personally I think it’s significantly harder that an outdoor ride of the same distance. The relentless nature of the efforts on the turbo (albeit that the rest intervals are a decent length in Disaster) are very different from outdoors. On a ride of that length outdoors I would typically have a significant number of zeros when it comes to power numbers.

I rode a hilly 100 mile TT last year which took the same duration as Disaster and even though it was a TT I had nearly 6 minutes of coasting downhills.

Recovery? Disaster was at the end the last hard week of Traditional Base 3 for me but my recovery week ended up being 2 Zwift races and then Truuli+1 as an opener for todays 8 minute FTP test. I ended up with a slight increase which is obviously good… but I use the my Direto’s power numbers indoors as compared to my other PM’s it doesn’t vary with the changing heat in my shed.

Sadly my head unit was recording my P2M classic which was reading around 8W higher than Direto so not quite the improvement I thought I was seeing while actually riding :disappointed_relieved: :blush:
