WorldWide "Disaster" Day - Dec 15, 2018

I misread or mistook the pre-disaster warm up question. I took it to mean doing a warm up immediately prior to the workout (same day). If it matters, I did the half a few weeks before…

@Macy Actually, you read it as I intended the question. What I/we were trying to determine was if Coach Chad’s warmup, that included difficult openers, was sufficient for everyone. What I learned is that . . . I need improve the wording of the questions

Hi John, @mcneese.chad created the -2 that I believe some used for that purpose and @summerson created the -1 that he and I and perhaps others did. We did discuss creating a 1hr plus version, but discarded it because we were only thinking of it as a “day of” event and not that some might use it for practice.

This event clearly attained huge attention and participation, so I’m sure for the next event we will improve notification and preparation suggestions, perhaps incorporated in Unofficial Guide I created.

I’m glad you enjoyed the experience. Thanks for your comments!

Apologies, only after reading other replies I realized I had misunderstood the warm up question. Thought Disaster warm up was fine

@jonathanwaddell No worries, whatsoever! I think I did a “good” job in clarifying certain questions (e.g. nutrition w/in 3 hours), but can improve on others.

WRT: pre-ride warm-up, there were enough responses to see that 9/10 felt the in-ride was sufficient, and that the common response for the 1/10 that did was about 10 mins of easy spinning.

Thanks for your comment.

I’m late to the party, but I’m planning this as a Christmas Eve present to myself. I will have no guilt for indulging in all excesses and relaxation the next day! :grinning:

After a week’s postponement owing to illness, I’m hoping to get this done today - lots of inspiration up-thread (and useful tips)! Gonna attempt at 100% and go from there.

Just finished Disaster Sat 22/12 UK. 100% all way through, desite not ideal preparation… My evening meal last night was 3/4 bottle of champagne, and a shed load of creamy Stilton and camembert cheese with lovely flakey pastry venison sausage rolls. I should emphaises this is not my normal pre-event fare - my wife invited friends round… and I only decided to do Disaster this Thurs evening.

Approach was drink lots of fluids and take each stage as it came. Had slightly upset stomach this am before starting as well. Must have had 5x 1 to2 min loo breaks to ‘check level of hydration’ (did I pee clear?).

I was not looking forward to Tugboat and fireworks, but manage to get through them OK. Really struggled with little castle at the end though. Was killing me. I think, despite eating 2 bananas, 2 gels and an energy bar i was pretty drained by then.

I only started using TrainerRoad around 8 weeks ago, and am very impressed with the system and community. Have been working through Sweet Spot Base Mid volume 1 and am a week or two into mid volume 2. Aiming for a decent UK Time trialing season next year. (Oh and I turned 60 this year as well, but my brain says stil 45).

…and to cap it all it was a lovely day outside, but my mates had called off their Saturday ride to this was my plan B before Christmas.

Thanks for this. @chad @Nate_Pearson What a bonkers session.

My forum tag is @mcneese.chad and any nickname you’d like is welcome.
(McChad was mentioned yesterday, McSleeze is a favorite in my local bike shop too :stuck_out_tongue: )

But the tag you used above is for Coach Chad Timmerman, the head coach at TR.
