Worldwide Disaster Day 2021 "Official" Thread

December 11 is at the end of a recovery week for me, and I have a ramp test the following Tuesday. I’m thinking about taking Sunday and Monday completely off, and depending on how I’m feeling on Tuesday, either do the ramp test, or push it back a day and do a light recovery ride instead. Do y’all think that’s enough to recover so I’m not carrying too much fatigue into the ramp test?

@dsirrom Are you starting SSBLV1 next week by any chance? :joy: I have that same workout on the 11th and might choose to sub in Disaster -2 which seems sensible.

I start SSB LV II on 30th November. AT has upped the ante for me as a result of some good progress recently. :grimacing:

Awesome :sunglasses:
I will place my T shirt order now :grinning:

:ok_hand:t2:

Even if you aren’t feeling in tip top shape you can always join one of the group workouts we setup and chat with us while doing endurance or something

I’m doing Disaster -2 this Friday. Had to move around my plan (strength and rides) a bit, but the minus 2 version doesn’t look crazy hard to me….we’ll see if I regret saying that when I’m done!! Based on how bad it is, I will decide if I’m doing the -1 or the full thing on the 11th.

Would attempting WWDD after six weeks of traditional base (so nothing higher than 75% FTP) be a “bad idea?”

Noooo…of course not…it’ll be…fine.

Please note: the organisers of WWDD do not accept any liability of injury or permanent disfigurement as a result of participating in WWDD. :grimacing:

This sounds like the ideal way to dip your toe into WWDD.

And yes, -2 still gives your bragging rights and the ability to wear the shirt with pride!

Going for the full this time round?!? :fire::fire::fire:

If I remember rightly, I did full Disaster at the end of a block, took Sunday/Monday off and was fine to ramp on the Tuesday. YMMV, so definitely don’t ramp if you’re still done in!

Welcome aboard! We need to start working on organising group workouts, but I’m sure if you let the thread know when you’ll likely be doing it, you may find some like-minded souls to enjoy it with.

In again for -2!! This time with a real power meter instead of virtual power where i found after my trainer adds resistance on its own, so killed my self.

I tried Disaster last year and it was well…

Here’s my notes:

That was hard! The third and fourth threshold intervals saw me just hanging on, probably still got Kaweah from Friday in my legs. The over-under block also felt a bit harder than it should and I got 15 seconds into the the first VO2max interval and I knew I wouldn’t be able to hold the power, my quads were lighting up and I’d have been cramping before the end of that 2min interval. Decided just to ride out to 3hrs then tried to hold the base power for the fireworks section and couldn’t even do that so eased back off and rode the time out.

That’s my longest turbo session ever! I think my previous longest was 2hrs and that was basically just endurance.

Might go for Disaster-1 this year.

These are great notes! Thanks!

We have a few helpful docs I’ll be posting today for first timers (and some of us who really struggled last time).

Gonna have to celebrate on Disaster Eve. My kiddo and her robotics team that I coach had the nerve to qualify for state on Disaster Day. Fingers crossed, it ends up being Disaster Day in name only hahah.

Looking to join for the first time. I’m planning the OG Disaster. I downloaded discord because I think that’s where the chat will be on the day? I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss out. I couldn’t find a group in discord but I’m guessing it hasn’t been created yet.

‘Robotics Team’ sounds v cool!
