My soul typically crawls out at 3:10. It sees Fireworks coming and nopes right out.
This is actually a great way to think about it. The original idea for WWDD came from the end of my base phase and wanting to see how well I was placed before going into build.
Nate described the outside version of Disaster as “Just go do Tour of Flanders,” and (having done Flanders) I’d say that’s accurate and it is actually a good metric for a hard race or group ride.
I’m planning on Liege Bastogne Liege in April so maybe should step up to Disaster as a prep for that! I need to get my riding partnrs to do it as a group workout!
Depending on your time zone, there should be group rides going that you could join as well!
Ooooo… outside version is much more tempting. I just dread the idea of spending multiple hours on a trainer. But it’s gonna be pretty chilly for an outside ride… decisions!
Edit: Oh, I get it now that I tried adding it to my calendar; there isn’t an outside version. Darn!
It’s currently on my plan for that dead period between Christmas and the New Year (28th Dec to be precise).
Sunday 12th could be an option though
If you live in Belgium, you can do the outside version. For the rest of us, it’s indoor only.
Only 1 month to go!!!
I finish work for the festive period on the 10th…Disaster on the 11th!
Woohoo!
It’s gonna be spicy!
Ah crap
Does anyone know the progression levels for Disaster? or if they said it won’t be getting any progression levels for some reason?
I don’t believe there are any progression levels associated with disaster. It’s about the adventure not the PLs
So that’s a yes, then?
“the adventure” = making it through?
Exactly. That’s why Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars film.
So a question for the group on WWDD from a first-timer.
I will be into a new plan by the time December 11th rolls around.
Luckily the plan has ‘Warlow+1’ scheduled for that day, which is a tough workout in its own right, with one and a half hours of over over-unders (5 x 9 minute intervals flipping between 98% and 110%) and 114 TSS and IF of 0.87 (Badged as a 5.0 progression level).
So my plan is to replace the booked workout with ‘Disaster-2’ which is 139 TSS and 0.78 IF which is broadly comparable (longer time / more TSS / lower IF).
Does this seem a reasonable plan? My aim is to participate (first time) but at the same time not mess up my training and / or overreach by biting off more than I can chew.
Next scheduled interval session after the Saturday 11th is on Tuesday 14th which gives me two days to recover
Also, if f I only do the -2 version so I qualify to place an order for a Tee shirt?
Not a pro here by any means but what you’re describing is just what I did and I found that -2 wasn’t terrible. By the end of it I still felt pretty good and committed to the full Disaster for the next time around which I’m sure I’ll regret I was doing MV at the time and skipped the Sunday workout. I did an easy spin either Sunday or Monday (can’t remember) and jumped back in on Tuesday with no problems.
ETA you bet I got the t-shirt when I did -2. I def earned that sucker!
It seems to be a great way of really feel a part of TR community. Been training with TR for 3 years never done the WWDD. 11/Dec should be ready to go after current bout with Covid…
