Worldwide Disaster 2019, The Official Launch!

As I’m currently still a bit sick, I think I’ll have to change the planned full effort on Saturday to at least the -1 or even the -2 version. But, I’ll still try to do one of those, if the flu eases up.

Be careful. Rest is best.

But I had to swap to -2 last year 2 weeks after being sick as well. It’s all good for any version, but make sure you don’t put yourself into a hole just for this event.

Yep, that’s the plan. I’ll see during the week how it all goes, and pick a version in case I’m ok to do one.

What an insane way to spend a Sunday morning!

Disaster Day comes early - had to do it today due to work commitments on the official day.

Threshold set: a rude awakening.

Endurance set: a deceptively long slog.

VO2 max set: the real work begins.

Fireworks set: don’t even go there.

Final endurance set: felt like the longest ride home after a particularly long, hard club run.

Good luck to everyone who’s doing it this weekend. It’s a hoot! Same time, same place next year?

These “events” always look nice beforehand but the moment you are in the middle …

It sure doesn’t look “nice” to me.

I am actually scared of it… and that is a good thing… kinda :stuck_out_tongue:

This is all about trying something you are not sure you can finish or how it will go throughout. Taking it on despite that fear and uncertainty and taking it wherever it goes. Triumph will be different for everyone.

Wont say Im scared…….you don’t know what you’ve got into until your actually into it though. I’ve set mine for this Friday. Worked out well being my recovery week

For the discord chat, how’s that work on the day? I’d usually have a playlist going but this might well not play nice with discord voice chat…

Last year, I just ran it as a messenger and no voice chat. I’m 99% sure no one wants to hear heavy breathing with interspersed swearing.

It is defaulted as push to talk. It was not used that much compared to the text chat.

The text ruled the roost and was great to skim between the hard sets and short recoveries.

Lots of motivation to be found there.

Did -2 today for “practice”. Legs feel suprisingly good now. Can’t quite make it through 10 minutes above FTP as of yet, need to do a quick backpedal in the middle, and have to do 10 sec backpedal after the double FTP sprints. Definitely scared of next week.

The -2 was one of the more enjoyable ways to spend 2 hours on the trainer though, the variety broke it up nicely.

Nice work. Don’t sweat the back pedals. Sometimes we need them to make it all work.

Yeah, I actually thin the -2 makes sense for monthly “tester” workout since it covers the bases of systems and isn’t overly demanding in the grand acheme.

You know it’s Disaster week when your going to bed at 7pm to bank some sleep and rest.

Do you guys plan to go a little more rested into full workout, e.g. by replacing the previous workout with an easier one?

Absolutely. I’m on a taper week this week and am even considering an opener the night before.

Have a specific workout in mind as an opener? I’m looking for ideas…thanks!

I usually go for Truuli or one of the minus versions. Usually do -2 (30 minutes) the night before just to wake up the legs a bit the day before the event.
