Without explainability the AI prediction is demoralizing

Agreed. Smacks of “I didn’t follow the recipe and the cake tastes terrible” or maybe I’m missing something. You think you really followed the plan? There are a zillion examples of people saying this and not actually following the plan.

Joe

…and can you imagine the MUTINY if they took FTP away and went off raw watts.

Take a rest day from sleep.

Yes that would be awesome! I just had a recovery day ride. Before ride my FTP prediction was 309w. I did the ride, it was easy and after my FTP prediction is 306w  I mean this feature is absolutely ridiculous. I already checked with support twice, and everything is amazing and I am doing great. Yet here I am AI FTP predicts nice increase in full block and after block I am lower then when I started. Would be great to understand what is going on. I am training to get better and measure that by FTP usually so…

So what is the purpose of posting if you don’t want help? Just go to Reddit.

I’m sure there are examples where the community didn’t identify a bug. But they are the exception.

Maybe there should be a thread for people who just want to vent and don’t want help.

I’m not really a fan of it either and don’t use that feature, but has your 6 week NP and AP been trending in the right direction, balanced with your RPE for those efforts? This is the main thing I’ve been looking at.

I turned off

I just returned from a road trip to FL with limited cycling opportunities. Ftp dropped from 213 to 207. First 3 workouts sucked and I reflected my discomfort in the rpe score. Consistent workouts and I am feeling much betterer. Did a V02max test last Saturday with score of 40.6. Not bad for a 71 year old. Did my first outside roadbike ride for 2026, 3 hours 11 minutes, 44 miles, np 134w, avg HR 111bpm

and 2346ft elevation gain. Felt great the entire ride. TR seems to be working for me.

I totally agree. TR needs an explanation feature for the changes it’s making. Without it I think the new package is a big backwards step as there just isn’t the understanding for flute user of what the AI is doing.

It’s that bad I’m thinking of changing to JOIN cycling until TR gets it sorted.

In the app or just desktop?

That’s cos it’s the measure of progress.

I’m happy for you to have this opinion.

I have a very different opinion.

Just bear in mind that both are just opinions. Neither is a fact. I know this. I’m not sure you do, based on your posts.

I think you mean one measure of progress.

Almost exactly my situation. There may be very good reasons that my FTP actually dropped over 30 days, but it’s not obvious. More important to me is that it meant I did the same 3.3 threshold workout three times, and then a fourth time at 3.0.

I’m getting a bit frustrated by it to be honest.

Lots of people crying about being given FTPs lower than their ego can deal with but next to no people saying that their training actually isn’t working :man_shrugging:t2:

The number of threads where people are complaining and saying that they are going to ditch TR purely because they have had their FTPs reduced is ridiculous…. fortunately a lot of them seem to be the started by the same few people.

The product isn’t perfect and there are plenty of problems to complain about and possible improvements to be made…. but I’ve lost patience with the “my FTP is low now” crowd.

If I were a mod I’d start a thread called “my FTP has gone down with the new system and I don’t like it” then move all these posts in there and they can all have a lovely pity-party together until they see sense and ride their bikes.

And for the predicted FTP - just turn it off if you dont find it useful.

+1

I don’t think it’s too surprising that people are upset when TR has for years been pushing FTP as an incredibly important metric and basing all of their workouts off of that number.

If you take a look at their blog they have quite a few articles going over why ftp is important, how to use it for pacing and comparing yourself to others.

But things aren’t static and I get why it might be frustrating (my new and old where only 5w from each other so I’. m less worried) but after numerous posts and threads what makes anyone think that this thread is going to be the one that rolls back the change?

If they’re started with the aim of looking at the history of training and what might be the cause then all power to you (generic non specific you) but ones that rehash the same points are a waste of time.

And yes I know reading them is just as big of a waste of time but I can’t help myself!

Ps not aiming at anyone in particular just musing idly while I wait for my Z2 to finish!
