White road shoes...yay or nay?

Sometimes when I’m thinking about getting X for cycling and wonder if I’ll look silly I remember it’s unlikely I’ll look sillier than I already do.

I like white shoes for cycling, not sure why but I do. Still I have some black ones as well.

Yay this round… cause they were cheaper

You definitely need white shoes. As well as some other colours.

Runners have several pairs of shoes, not just a pair. And we all have multiple pairs of sneakers. So why should you have only one pair of cycling shoes.

I got white golf shoes because they were ‘my size’, and eventually had to give up trying to keep them clean. They were expensive too with carbon soles, etc.

Found a holdover pair of Foot Joys in brown. Strange color, but seems to hide everything.

Bikes shoes: Indoor: red, outdoor: blue, outdoor SPD: black. :person_shrugging:

I’m in favor of any use of color or lightness that makes us more visible. I shake my head at the number of cyclists dressed head to toe in black, & riding black bikes. Seems like they’re asking to be hit. Whether it’s scientifically proven or not doesn’t change public image.

But I’m biassed. I also think black is boring as :bat::poop:, & the last time I moved I got rid of all my black clothes… not that I had much in black anyway.

My white shoes are dirty and I like it

Totally agree on both counts.

Well, my bikes are black, my Jeep is black (factory order), most of my clothing is black.

So of course, my shoes are black. I would only buy white shoes if they were on clearance, and they would quickly turn into whatever shade my local road crud is.

White shoes look sick but I don’t care enough to keep mine clean and I ride in almost all weather so they’re just dirty :man_shrugging:

They’re still whiter than gray or black shoes so they still look cool to me. I don’t really care if other people care.

It’s like I’m much more worried about the guy lining up in a P12 crit with a dirty, rim brake, CAAD12 than I am the guy who looks like he’s got a Rapha and S-works sponsorship. In the end, it’s a race/sport, not a fashion show (for me at least).

Haha, true true. My problem is I buy things that look cool (or flashy) but then don’t care enough to keep them in mint condition. IMO, the dirt and grit is it’s own kind of fashion signaling.

I also have a white Tarmac and that thing is covered in dust, dirt, and carb mix 90% of the time.

Reminds me of a friend who, when she moved to the USA, attached a piece of clear plastic to a mudguard on the car she was using. A week later she took that piece of plastic around to all the local car dealerships & told them she wanted “a car that’s this color”. Luckily it was the early 80s so brown was in vogue.

Smart! I haven’t washed my Jeep once yet, so that’s one of the color combos it currently has. Plus a little of the shade from the off road dirt :joy:

White socks, white shoes, white gloves, white helmet. If it’s wet, I’ll wear some old black shoes and other socks but only then.

Trick to white shoes is a foaming carpet cleaner and a tooth brush. Don’t use a magic eraser, over time it will wear down the outer layer.

White is pro, and nothing shows better than a clean pair of white kicks on race day.

Would these be hard to keep clean?

I don’t have a big problem keeping my gloves clean. The palms are black so that helps. I’ll wash them once in a while but they don’t get very dingy.

Magic Eraser for the win! Seriously a must have for white shoes.
