Which smart scales (UK)

I’m starting strength training, so will likely get DEXA scans done.

I did my first S&C session for weeks last night, but to be honest it’s more to deal with imbalances/ niggles than body comp. Although that may change in the future. The approach I’ll probably take then is to verify the scales v bodypod (which I think it’s covered in the DEXA mega thread).

Really the scales should give relative changes even if the absolutes are off? A bit like power meters, consistency more important than accuracy.

I’ve used a Tanita, the Garmin one, and now the Nokia/Withings mainly because it’s trusted here.

Just wanted to remind of Smartscalesync that can save a lot of service-to-service syncing frustrations across most of the popular platforms.

I’ve had a withings for a lot of years. It measured within 1% of a body scan for fat percentage and i find it to be very consistent. Sometimes varies up to 3% but that could be related to hydration???

I have a Withings. I’m mainly interested in tracking trends, so it doesn’t much matter, but do we know whether Withings readings are generally closer to calipers or DEXA?

I’m using a withings and I agree with a few of the above statements. It’s more about consistent recording for me. It syncs every time. I’m never happy with what I read. But at least it’s consistent!

“I’ve been happy with the Renpho so far. Haven’t compared them to a Tanita scale or DEXA scan though like on the podcast.”

@thatmdee 1 year on do you still use your Renpho scales? They are selling for £25 on amazon, i was going to order a set but wondered first if it;s still working and you are still happy with it. Second, which model variant do you have?

I still use the Renpho ES-CS20M. Sync’s to Fitbit, and then SmartScaleSync syncs it into TrainerRoad, Strava, Garmin.

I’m still trusting it, given I had compared it to Dexa for me.

Only issue is that sometimes the app takes 2 goes to connect via bluetooth, if bluetooth was off (and the app has to give a prompt to turn on). But that is like 20 seconds delay!

Does this model have athlete mode?

Yes. It’s an option in your profile in the app. As earlier in the thread (I think) pre-dexa, I was in non-athlete mode, but switching made it pretty similar to the dexa reading.

Pretty late, but yes, I’m still using my Renpho scales. I have the ES-30M model. Having said that, I have not had a DEXA yet, so cannot compare.

I probably shouldn’t be using them, as my weight has gone from 72kg up to 77.85kg in the last couple of months – ignorance is bliss! … I’ve only been doing strength training for the last several months, so some of that may be muscle mass, although I’ve just started adding cardio back in.

I was hoping the Wyze scale would come to the UK.

I am revisiting this as I have been given an Amazon gift card and might need to weigh myself in a few days :grinning:

What are peoples recommendations?

Renphos still great for me after a couple of years

Renpho still working for me too, although either the app or fitbit seems to have developed a habit of requesting sync to fitbit most times I log on!

I don’t know how accurate they’ll be but I went for the Podium scales from Tweeks a few weeks back. I stuck batteries in tonight. It gives me plenty of numbers they could be garbage though :joy: Apparently I was more healthy before I went for a p1$$ :joy::joy:
