…are “most similar”, in terms of pedal stack height and Q-factor to Assioma Pro MX-2 pedals?
I’m in the process of switching from some non-SPD pedals to the Pro MX-2s for my road bike, and I’m after some basic but half-decent SPD pedals for my permanent setup “turbo mule bike” that will feel the same positionally as the Assiomas on my road bike. May as well be double-sided for sheer laziness, and being indoor-only weight isn’t an issue…
Thanks. I’ve recently learned I am super sensitive to small changes, hence me risking over-thinking it here😉. Since I need some pedals anyway, thought I may as well get ones as similar as possible.
Look X-Track pedals seem to have the same 53mm Q-factor as the Assiomas, and a stack height within 0.6mm. Similar price to Shimano M520s (ie. cheap!), which have almost the same total stack height as the Assiomas, but with a wider 55mm Q-factor (same as the M540s & PD-M8100s). I think!
Could all do the job, but I’ll probably try some basic Look X-Tracks, as I favour the identical Q-factor most.
If you’re stack height sensitive, you have to go somewhere between the XTR and XT pedal.
Note that Favero measures stack height differently; they advertise 11.2mm, which is lower than the advertised 15.1mm for the XTR, but in reality, XTR is about 0.7mm lower in my measurement.
XT is supposedly 1.4mm taller than the XTR per Shimano, which would give you +0.7mm taller than the PRO MX. M540 is another 0.5mm on top of that.
Q factors I did not measure, but are less of an issue because you can actually adjust with pedal spacers.
Note that my measurements are relative since I’m measuring to the shoe tread.
A confusing thing with stack heights seems to be that some quote pedal stack while others quote total stack height (pedal + cleat), with the cleat adding an additional 6-6.1mm to the total stack height figure.
Hence, MX-2 Pros have pedal stack of 11.2mm, total stack of 17.2mm
Shimano quotes M520s & M540s as 17mm stack height, which I believe is total stack height.
The table in this article lists the pedal stack alone for some SPD power & non-power pedals, which is quite useful (although it lists the MX-2s Q-factor as 54mm vs the 53mm figure listed by other sources):

For “reasons” (I won’t bore the forum with - yet!), it’s helpful for me to favour matching the Q-factors without using spacers vs matching stack heights identically, so I think I’ll try the bottom of the range Look X-Tracks with their (possibly!) matching 53mm Q-factor and only a teeny tiny difference in total stack (16.8mm vs 17.2mm), which is nothing.
