Where is TT bike development going in 2021/22?

Then we enter a grey area of the rules, half the discs on the market have a non structural skin to make it a disc. Yet they’re ok…

That Hope TT bike still looks a long way off… its still got the higher track-specific bottom bracket.

It is a prototype or a teaser. We need to wait until they release the final product to really judge it.

Oh I agree - by a long way off I meant in terms of time until a real bike is made - they will have to make major changes to the geometry that would effect aero I would imagine.

I actually really like it - wish I was a millionaire.

Isn’t the headline of that article that it will go into production next year? Hope have a pretty low lead time for any production changes - that’s well explained in the article, and they’ve had it out in races already.

I think the price is going to be pretty competitive compared to other top end bikes - 12-15kGBP for a hope bike, Shiv is 12k. Both well beyond my means, but…

I really like the look of it, and being a Hope product I reckon it’ll be bombproof and long lasting.

I’ve got hubs from the previous millennium that still work and I can get spares for which since they said it had proprietary brakes is a good thing.

Is it the same brand?! I thought it was a huge coincidence lol. Seems quite the leap from mountain bike hubs and disc brakes (what I’ve known of Hope for).

Yup same folks up in Yorkshire.

Hubs → discs brakes → CNC drivetrain and cockpit → carbon enduro frame → track bike → TT bike

Quite a progression! And right up to track frame all bits are really serviceable.

Yeah, I always dreamed of building some wheels with Hope hubs!

These days I prefer a silent bike so that makes it unlikely now, but they are so good, and I still enjoy the clickety-clackety buzz when a Hope hubs goes by.

The Hope is definitely the most interesting looking TT concept I have seen based on new UCI regulation.

The Speedmax has thinner fork blades, but doesn’t really appear any revolutionary.
The images I have seen of the SpeedConcept really looks like a mixture of the Shiv TT and Speedmax, not making any visible use of new regulations.

Superslice really doesn’t look fancy to me either.

So far, of the big bike makers, only the Factor Slick looks 2022 to me. It is very narrow “in the middle” and has a very wide for fork and stays.
However, only the Hope looks “groundbreaking” -
And I love that!

Disclaimer:
I don’t dislike any of the other bikes, and have yet to see any proof that the super wide forks are any fast in the real world)

They were chosen for the project based on their ability to turn out high precision aluminium moulds for carbon parts quickly. So testing of the bikes could happen on a shorter cycle.

Tri specific, but while Felt wasn’t improving their track bike (or US wasn’t funding them to) for Tokyo, Felt was working on this prototype ridden this past weekend in Switzerland by Ryf:

That looks utterly hideous.

Wondering what Disc they use. When a disc is “fake branded” it’s usually a Roval, Aerocoach, Princeton CW.

You don’t like the Harley-esque gas tank for hydration? :joy:

DT Swiss did actually make a disc at one point, but the one in that pic looks almost like a Roval.

Looks like a Tri-Rig had a threesome w/ a Diamondback and a P5x….

Those are also tubs and rim brake discs, so unlikely it’s a DT.
According to Swissside, they are not currently planning to make a Disc wheel - and they develop the aero wheels for DT, so unlikely we see a new wheel soon.

Not an Aeox. Doesn’t look like a Roval. I’m not super familiar with the Princetons - but that’s my guess.

And yet Factor sponsored riders in the world tour, who have the option in their contract for racing on different kit when racing in national teams - chose not to ride the Factor. Not sure if they have access to the new bike or not though.

Remains to be seen how this will be once the bike got a full release.
As I said, I have no idea if the Factor Slick is actually fast, or just different.

There was quite some fuzz about the UCI regulations being changed, and maybe no one has found a way to create a fast bike out of that, yet.
