The usual EBs group ridre for me today. I think my mate was doing 3 x 15mins rising threshold sessions (the last one being over) before the cafe. So I had an armchair ride in his draft (if you can call 75-88% MHR an armchair ride). After the cafe he had a 20min tempo session. I am glad he did. Not only because I got an armchair for 95%, but he decided rather than calling it off after 20mins to carry on through Fotheringhay (Local village) and up the hill to Nassington (another local village). On the climb I came up next to him at circa 87-93% (Thereâs no way I could have done that if it wasnât Tempo for him). Unbeknown to me that got me a KOM.
A bit more sedate in the afternoon. I replaced my rear disk pads on the gravel bike and took it out for a test ride. The new pads were great but I decided that although the front pads still had life to change them to as I was sick of the old pads squealing. So once changed I went out for another test ride. The new pads arenât as bitey as the old ones but theyâre 100% smoother (more modulation) and after a few pulls of the brakes they were 100% quieter too ![]()
Got some good weather on the docket for the next few days! Got out after over a week straight of riding inside! Gonna have a lot of thaw the next week and itâs gonna get pretty dingy looking outside.
Started a little fresh this morning but wasnât icy and it was a lovely morning
I rodeout of Peterborough to our gravel bike meet at Elton. Surprisingly with it being so nice only one other turned up (my uber strong mate). We had a great ride out to the Top Lodge Cafe at Fineshade via Yarwell Mill, Sulehay Forrest, Ring Haw Woods, Bedford Purlieus Woods, Kings Cliffe and Fineshade Woods.
After a delicious brownie we headed back to Elton via the Bridleway south of Kings Cliffe, Apethorpe Cut, Nassington, and one of Eltonâs many Bridleways.
As we had plenty of time we decided to go over Greenhills Road to Bullock Road then the Bridleway south of Hampton. Thats when the proverbial wheels started to come off for me
I kept him in sight to Hampton but lost him on the run to Farcet. He had turned left to town at Farcet lol, I carried straight on to the river path (River Nene) round the back of Stanground and into town via the new Fletton Quays development.
The top right link on Garminâs Training Status was apt âHelpâ!
Me, three
Did you garnish your brownie with a cookie? genius!
The cafe is rather good. A Jamie Dodger biscuit and Jam on the top of a white chocolate chipped brownie ![]()
No redlining for me, 41F /5C at the start, 72F / 22C high around mile 50, the dropped to 63F / 17C at mile 80 when it started raining.
Good workout for low aerobic adaptations:
9 out of 10 on aerobic training impulse score. And 2 out of 10 on glycolytic. Mission accomplished.
Early in the ride, the vines in Lodi appellation are about to wake up:
a little Wild Turkey, not the liquid kind:
A closer view of the old Rancho Seco nuclear power plant:
We had a lot of rain a month ago:
First rest stop, the best darn rest stop on the Train for the Tour series:
Eagle nests at Lake Camanche:
A little cloudy, but great views of the snow capped Sierra mountains from the foothills:
Great day to be on a bike :smile
Beautiful form! You were born to ride!
Boy, the wind today just wouldnât quit. What should have ended with a solid 20 miles of tailwind ended up with maybe 5 of tailwind and the rest with a crosswind.
Another quickie this morning. Cool at 0C, but dry. Black ice warning from the evening before, but not relevant for us. It seems the snow level dropped, but it remains at least 500â above our elevation (as seen from the morning drive and looking across the lake).
A quick pic on the return when I stopped at 6a to phone the son as requested to make sure he got up at 6a.
And to make sure no one is under the illusion that Iâm training or fit, hereâs TPâs perspective on what Iâve been doing.
Love the color!
Great pics!
Orange Seal everywhere after the front tire was spraying on Saturday. Twice. But it sealed.
Was suppose to be on the bike, but that front tire puncture on Saturday made me nervous even though it was holding air. So instead of riding in the light of the late afternoon, I spent the time peeling orange seal off the front of the bike. And putting a new tire in, as the one that took the hit had 1600 miles on it.
No night pics.
If I was starting a band, I would name it Stochastic Endurance after tonights ride.
Pretty much all endurance HR, but crazy power swings.

and somehow made it turn green⌠only need to âmakeupâ 20 TSS over the rest of the week.
That reminds me I pulled a Thorn out of my gravel bikes tyre on Sunday it made a bit of a sealant mess but fortunately when I was washing it so it was quickly hosed away. I need to check its holding air.
Thanks. They are, not that you asked, Lotus Racing Green (a variation of British racing green) and Nightfever Orange, both metallic.
I have that same bike light!
