Wheelsets I can use for 142 and 135

Hello all. I’ve seen a few topics for discussion on good “all around” wheelsets, but not anything specifically on the issue I’m trying to solve. I have a collection of bikes with both 142 through axle and 135 QR axles. 2 of the bikes even have a mashup of 135 qr rear, with 100 through axle front. So, I’m trying to find a decent set of wheels (preferably carbon or lightweight) set up for disc, that can be swapped between the bikes with the use of different end caps for the hubs. Nice thing is I dont have to worry about hub/cassette compatibility, since they’re all shimano. I am almost certain Hunt wheels have hubs that can have end caps swapped back and forth if you buy an extra set of end caps. Any other brands anyone is aware of that have this ability? Ideal scenario is finding a used set online from a brand that someone has had success swapping end caps back and forth on. I see used WTB, shimano, vision or similar wheels a lot and wondering if I could buy a set, and then get end caps easy enough to swap back and forth. The difficult part is plenty of the used wheels I see are “OEM spec” and the hubs may be slightly different or unnamed. Any guidance is appreciated!

Industry Nine is good about this. :+1:

I’d imagine DT Swiss also has QR endcaps..

I’ve also had a few sets of Bontrager wheels that I’ve been able to switch back and forth.

The vast majority of the chinese wheels (Alot of which are very good these days) have removable end caps to swap between QR & TA.

They often come with slidy off freewheels aswell, so I can swap between a 10-28 & 10-36 on the same wheel without tools in a few minutes

I had considered this, but didnt want to send myself down the inevitable rabbit whole then of all the “off brand” offerings. Any brand you’ve had good experience with?

Stan’s has been great for swapping end caps, IME.

Elite’s either from their store or Ali official store.

Never had any delivery issues, never had to have them trued, no cracks, breaks or any concerns.

3 sets (50 Rim brake, 82 Rim brake & 82 Disc brake), 9000 miles. Latest set, the 82 Discs cost £200 inc delivery during Black Friday so ludicrously cheap if you get them at the right time.

Heard only good things about Superteam, ICAN, 9Velo etc aswell.

I was in the same position as you originally though and for the first few hundred miles rode like I was on eggshells, worrying etc. Then eventually, just kind of forgot they were Chinese & moved on.

DT SWiss does indeed have QR endcaps. I paid about $60 for a set a couple years ago. It’s a quick swap between bikes.

A lot of Novatec hubs have end caps for both. I have had good luck with them, even on non and house branded wheels that are just OEM Novatec.
