Just make sure they are the ones with the correct width and the new spokes and hubs. Otherwise they are inferior to the Rapide
I picked up a pair of DT Swiss 1100’s and I can’t say enough about them. The handling is amazing and there’s no push as one finds with Zipp. Go Enve or DT Swiss and you’ll be really glad you did.
I wouldnt get the Rapides because no option to run tubeless. Budget I would get the older CLX that can run tubeless or maybe Hunt
Did you go 62s or 50s?
I don’t have a ton of experience with high end carbon wheels. What do you mean by “push”?
As it was a road bike, I went 48/62. I really have been impressed with the solid feel and incredible response. Definitely a true game changer as far as lively wheel with a solid feel. Cornering is such a breeze. I put Vittoria Corsa tires on them and the suppleness of the tire with the solid wheel is amazing.
My Zipps always felt like they were wanting to move sideways instead of holding a solid line. Pushing out away from the direction I wanted to go. Since I switched to Enve and DT Swiss, I am far more confident and happier with the response and general feel. Goos wheels are worth every penny.
I basically cancelled my order of the RSL37s.
Leaning towards the ARC50s now ![]()
Think my size 58 Emonda will look better w/50-rims vs 37s too…
The 62s are of course faster, but I think I would prefer the 50s weight and ability to handle crosswinds.
The Rovals is lighter, but I lose tubeless option and they are a bit more expensive for me.
Have you looked at Farpsorts wheels?
I bought two sets in September; a gravel set and road wheelset. Both are around 1200g with DT Swiss 240 EXP hubs and were less than $2k total shipped to the US. Both are 25mm internal hookless rims and were super easy to set up tubeless with 25mm and 40mm tires.
And I can’t speak highly enough about the quality of their customer service. They went above and beyond to have my wheels built and shipped on a tight schedule I was working with. Much better service than some US-based companies I’ve bought from in the past.
The wheels themselves have been flawless with plenty of miles put on them over the last couple months. They replaced my Enve 4.5AR’s that were sold with my previous bike, and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another set from Farsports.
Yes, I allready have a set of 1402g AR46s w/Carbon-Ti hubs.
They have been good, but not perfect. They are lighter, wider and deeper than my DT PRC 1100 35db, but in my case, the building quality and stiffness of my DTs are just a little bit better than the LBs.
Was looking at WR50 front + AR55 rear w/240EXP. They would be 1485g, and $1450 + VAT.
Im about 77-78kg, so Im a bit sceptic about going for the Flyweight rims based on my other set.
The DT ARC 1100 would be about €1510 + VAT, so thats about 25-27% more expensive than the LBs. Feel like that might be worth it for me personally this time.
Really like the look of their new Falcon Pro rims though, but with their increased shipping rate post Covid Im temted with the DTs.
Have also looked at Farsports that are both cheaper and has free shipping, but the Feders is max 45 mm, price of $1030 is seriously good though.
Have also looked at Nextie that has some really nice 49/54 rims, price equal to LB.
After reading your post I realized I don’t have Light Bicycle wheels at all, they are from Farsports
(post edited to reflect this). I was also looking at LB but their prices were pretty high like you are saying. I have the Feder 35mm and a Gravel set from Farsports.
Anyone tried the Parcours Strade?
Looks like a good option, at least if you want to run 28mm tires.
makes me thinking about my new wheelset: ZIPP 303s versus DT Swiss PR 1400 DICUT 21 (alu) pair. About the same weight and price, the alu version is even 100 grams lighter.
Biggest difference is the rim height and material.
Tips?
You got way better hubs on the DT Swiss wheel set… underrated with good hubs ![]()
the better hubs overrule the aero benefits? I’m really not into looks or whatsoever.
If you’re after bullet proof wheels, with fantastic hubs (probably the best on the market), and looks don’t matter, then for sure, get the DT Swiss ones.
Sure, you’ll lose out on some of the aero benefits, but those benefits are very very small during normal speeds. You’ll get more aero benefit from making sure that you have well sitting clothes and an aero helmet!
Also, since the DT Swiss rim is hooked you can use whatever tyre you want, and not be stuck with only tubeless-ready tyres that you’ll need to use with the ZIPPs…
I’d say get the DT Swiss, you can’t go wrong with them
They’re nice and light as well for that price!
