What workout did you do today? (2023)

Its maybe the quality (or lack of to be precise) of my Elite Suito and my FTP not being big enough (so a small % change is a lot of watts to me) but I found ERG would bite away at me. So I switched to resistance mode. What was a pretty consistent cadence pre ERG has dropped too and is more of a grind in intervals and I was hoping that would come back after switching to resistance but it hasn’t. Perhaps my old Elite Muin (fluid resistance) was more conducive to a good cadence than the electronic resistance

Yep. Resistance mode ftw. Spin up quickly to about 120rpm and hold it for 20 seconds or so. Know that your power here will be well above the target for the interval. Hang on for the rest of the interval trying to keep the cadence up as best you can and letting the power take care of itself. These aren’t hard starts. They’re start hard and keep on going. If power falls below target towards the end of the interval, it doesn’t really matter. The intensity is the stimulus. This why Erg mode isn’t good for these, because it drags you down as the power drops.

During the ride, focus on cadence and breathing. Only look at heart rate and power after the ride.

That being said, I struggle doing them this way for more than 3 minutes.

Maybe experiment with the resistance %, I had to slightly increase mine to be able to go low enough for the rest intervals, so I suspect you should decrease yours.

3x 15 min threshold

Took a seven-second backpedal with four minutes to go in the second interval. Faffed around at the end of the last interval to keep power at FTP while I finished the Alpe du Zwift. Much better than yesterday’s VO2 session.

EDIT: Apparently I forgot to charge my HRM.

Those ate some brutal back to back workouts, which plan, level and week are you in?

JOIN App, LSRF plan, week 10. Next week is assessment, then onto my off season (FasCat 10-week weight lifting).

JOIN likes to give three days on, one day off. I try to make Sunday a day of rest, so during weeks where work travel and life let me keep things as normal, I tend to get the following:

  • Monday - VO2
  • Tuesday - Threshold
  • Wednesday - Strength
  • Thursday - Rest
  • Friday - Tempo / Sweet Spot
  • Saturday - Long Endurance
  • Sunday - Rest

I have a Elite Suito as well, and its power readings are way off. I don’t relay on them not even 1 sec. Always using my faveros for power. The downside is that there’s some sort of oscilation (always). Suito, favero and the controller (app, head unit, etc.) are constantly fighting against each other, it’s not ideal, but I won’t replace the trainer just because of that.

I’m in week 5 of FTP builder, intermediate level. JOIN is still much more conservative with scheduling consecutive days even when I max out my availability

2nd Vo2 max workout after a summer of unstructured rides and a FTP AI bump of 4.9%.

Loving the HV polarised and looking forward to the next AI detection on the 19th of this month.

Similar for me, I use a Favero Be Pro S for power readings. The one benefit of the Suito as far as I see it that outweighs things for me at the moment in a small 1bed flat is its compactness/portability.

True, and being foldable helps me a lot as I don’t keep it always mounted.

Did the 2h version today, the sprints made it much harder than I had anticipated. Switched to resistance mode for the last 2 intervals

Geiger -1 was in my calendar tonight and I tried not to touch the resistance arrow key too much and upped my spin to meet targets. Other than one moment when I got distracted reading an email I think it went OK

It looks like the Garmin Edge dropped the power meter a few times but TR never did.

This hurt a lot. Reflecting on the workout, it was more mental than physical, but it’s the closest I’ve come to failing a workout without failing!

Super happy to get through that. 2x30 @ 85%

I had the 90min Moose’s Tooth -1 in my calendar originally but I wanted to give my self more time before bed to let my brain settle down and used ‘Alternates’ to select a 60min workout. I had started spinning up and down to the targets but by the fourth interval I resorted to my usual  upping the resistance and as a result my cadence was stupidly low.

Lol, I think Garmin makes this number up. With no outside group rides with a power meter in the last two weeks its went from the low 60s to this:
