17 minutes on the treadmill this morning, then 45 minutes on the trainer at lunch. Lungs are burning pretty good now, so hopefully they settle back down at some point this afternoon.
After playing around with plan builder again itâs now dropped a week from SSBMV2. Ebbetts it is.
I was pleasantly surprised that I could nose breath through most of the intervals. Itâs a good feeling after a 4% bump on the ramp.
Happy days.
After Tuesdayâs wobble with Mills, I was really pleased to get Darwin under my belt this morning without any problems. Donât get me wrong, it was tough (as it should be), but it was manageable. I put 5 mins extra into the warm up this time also with some z2 at the end. The rest day yesterday certainly helped. Lesson learnt.
Coming to the end of Wk4 of SSBMV2 I am tempted to put in a recovery week next week. If I did so, would it be sensible to then repeat Wk4 of SSBMV2 the week after, or go straight back to plan and complete Wk5 before another recovery week? Would appreciate thoughts.
Another Ramp Test clusterf*ck. Gave me 13% lower than the Kolie Moore protocol on Tuesday. Thereâs always something with me and ramp tests, this time it was never getting the cadence up. Iâm genuinely not a ramp test naysayer, but it really just doesnât work for me, at the moment.
Anyway, sticking with the longer test result and will adjust down for VO2 Max. I had Kaweah scheduled for Saturday, which I was going to sub out for a race, so I may do that instead of Ebbetts tomorrow. Or just go the whole hog and verify with Lamarck.
Iâm right there with you @Psychopasta My FTP is 139 at 53 years old. And being overweight doesnât help my w/kg numbers. In order to find me on the watts/kg chart, start at the international pros, then drop to the domestic pros, then cat1, cat2, cat3, cat4, cat5, untrained, then go to the lowest w/kg and underneath that is where I am. My watts/kg is so low I donât even make the bottom of the chart! 1.6 watts/kg.
Itâs disheartening to think that if I lost the weight (50lbs) and added 70watts to my FTP, I might make it to the bottom of the barrel cat 5 rankings. But it is what it is. Iâm riding, strength training, and working on losing the weight.
AnywhooâŚfellow low FTPâer here just showing my support! We can do it!
It is so nice to see you riding and working out. I hope you are feeling better.
Deerhorn - felt good! Been focusing more on fueling thanks to the TR podcasts and feeling the benefit. Letâs go!
I did Donner (plus 5min extra) last night at 11pm⌠so it was technically part of âtodayâ.
10 minutes in and I was convinced there was NO WAY I was going to make it through even half of the first interval⌠but it came and went⌠then #2⌠then #3 and it was done. Feeling it in the legs today, like I know I had a good hard effort.
Since getting the Kicker Core in December, Iâm actually looking forward to workouts. Game Changer. Because thereâs no way I could have kept my power totally in control at 98% of FTP for 3x12 on my own.
Hmm maybe bit adventurous doing this one as my first ever suprathreshold workout. Probably should have gone with one that has some proper rest intervals.
Managed to hold on and recover slightly at FTP after I cracked, so not entirely a wasted seshâŚ
Thanks for the well wishes. It feels good to be back on the bike.
Today i hit the Budawang +5 which is 5x9 mins 102% following with 30 mins 65%.
At the first and second 9 mins intervals were ok and the third one bited a little but the last two intervals were really hard. I could finish them but i guess i learnt to cope with pain is it normal to feel that pain in this workout (5x9 mins 102%)?
Btw: ftp 320w, max hr 182 bpm. In this ride i saw 175bpm
15 minute warm upâŚdidnât need to do that long today because I didnât realize that todayâs session had a longer than usual warmup period built in.
Todaysâs session was Kosciusko +4 (8x5 108% 3R). Man, these are tough for me.
Hunter -1 today, First 2 hour weekday session. Iâve done Hunter and Hunter -2 and every time I appreciate those long rests. I definitely donât need them, but the mental break is nice. Also gave me lots of time to get out of the saddle to prevent numbness.
Had to turn down the intensity to sweet spot again, but felt good once I had.
Then a medium run in the evening with a couple of hills.
