Palisade today, converted from outside to inside as it was -15 real feel outside… Enjoyed it weirdly.
Really wanted to go out for a long ride today, but conditions were proper sketchy.
WHad Juneau -1 planned, but I did it last week and fancied something different.
Stoked to have completed Polar Bear so comfortably – average HR for the 1:45 tempo block was 152bpm, ~30bpm below LTHR!
SSBHV1 is working wonders for my sustained power!
Nice work @JonasP … are you doing one of the training plans?
Nothing was in my calendar for today but for the first time in a bit the road were only wet and not icy (still some slushy pack ice at the side in places), so I slipped in an outdoor version of Tehipite and addressed a bit of cabin fever. I quiquite liked its tempo intervals, fast but not too fast on potentially slippy roads. When the intervals ended though I did a few more.
Thanks!
Following the wisdom of planbuilder. Right now about 2/3 into SSB2. LV to leave room to just ride and do other training. (2 hours of Z2/3-isch trailriding yesterday)
Tallac +2
After a 3 hour hike/walk today through various depths of muddy trails, got back and didn’t feel like sitting on the trainer for two hours…legs already feeling used.
Opted for a ADZ climb on Zwift, that would distract, would ride rest periods and get a good solid hour at sweet spot, moved it from Tallac +3 to Tallac+2, would switch to resistance in rest periods. Final push at the end, over top and back down. Worked out that ADZ climbed in just under 62 minutes @92%ftp.
Not very compliant but better than not doing anything!
Rest day tomorrow before week two of 2 on 1 off.

First time on trainer going 3 hours Z2/Z3 without any break, and it felt great. Previously, on say Big Mountain, the long stretches would slay me. I think the staggered steps on Balcony helped me periodically refocus. Yes, steps cause more fatigue but HR decoupling was 0%, so maybe fatigue is not the limiter, it’s mental.
Looking forward to doing 3.5 hours next week. ![]()
Geiger +2 yesterday to close out the first week of SSB2 MV. After Kaweah the day before I was expecting this to feel tougher than it did, but I think my reduced perceived RPE was due to the “rolling” nature of the intervals and them being split down into varying target power throughout each one.
Rest day planned today but might jump on for something very light like Taku and spend some time focusing on some core and mobility work also.
Went for the old reliable Pettit today, rather than Recess. I still want to work on my cadence, again, as Zwift events definitely dragging it down.
Struggled through Reinstein on Saturday, but it was really too much on top of a Friday night zwift race. I should definitely have done the analysis I’ve just done before attempting the workout on Saturday! ![]()
The zwift race will be staying (It’s a Team Ireland race, and I’m enjoying being part of a community in these times), so going forward, I’m going to sacrifice one of the 3 workouts. I haven’t quite decided whether that should be a straight threshold workout or over and unders.
Time (rather than %) in zones pretty similar:

Wow @ColoradoJames big ride there!
All I know is that it’s done. My goal was 400W and ended up averaging 122%
I contemplated subbing in Kaiser +2 (9x3), but told myself this likely satisfied minimum effective dose.
VO2 intervals are all between the ears IMO. If it’s 2 minute intervals, you hang on by a thread, week later bump to 2:30 and the last 30 seconds is pure pain & will power but then go to 3 minutes and tell yourself based on how the 2:30 intervals felt last week, there’s just no way, but somehow you do it. Your mind prepares your body for the work.
Have never had a single Bluetooth issue until the last interval of Spencer +2! It was only a few seconds, but I tacked 15 seconds on the end to make sure I didn’t short myself, lol.
Nice work. Have you tested your max 5’ power?
