What workout did you do today? (2018/2019)

I really like this workout. It does have similarities to Echo, which I’ve used if time is against me.

Workout text states to sit for these, I always sit. Takes a few seconds to spin up the power rather than a standing sprint but I pretty much give it all I can seated and try to hold it.

Ok, makes sense. I keep the instructions turned off because I find them demoralizing, lol

Planned to keep the pace down these next two weeks ahead of the marathon, plus a bit hung over from a fair dose of wines last night.

So went out and set a new PB by several minutes on my ~10k hill/trail run route :see_no_evil:

I blame Def Leppard.

Did 40/20s at 130% last night, and was able to actually not feel like dying!

Progress!

a really long ride: https://www.strava.com/activities/2248297671

I just did Kaweah… Seriously??? That was MISERABLE… It made me question my life choices…

Just kidding. Seriously, that was grizzly.
Thanks Chad, Nate, & Jonathan for conditioning my body and mind…

Went outside today, no work and good weather. 3.75hrs with some broken up sweet spot at the start to mimic Tallac +3. Chain gang tomorrow so need to get these legs rested.

Taylor-2 today with 3% addition to FTP. Went surprisingly good so might have to do another ramp test soon.

Got my first 2 hour ride coming up this Sunday, not sure my behind can handle sitting on the trainer for that long. We’ll see.

Felt ok, the addition of a second fan made the heat soak much less of a problem. The allergy season has started though so we’ll see how the workouts will be affected in the coming weeks…

Skipped my swim this morning; a confluence of things just meant I really didn’t feel it, even though I actually made it all the way to the pool with all my stuff. Came home and lingered over my coffee and oatmeal instead. It was the right decision.

Then I did Laurentian and watched The Punisher. Only one break to use the washroom and put my sweet potato in the oven.

Not so much today’s workout but yesterdays. I did Merced +1 and failed my first workout. At the end of the 2nd set of 40-second intervals I was hurting. I did not make it through the 3rd set and was really shot. I just soft peddled through the 4th set in an attempt to salvage the last two rounds. I made it through the 5th but nixed the 3rd/middle interval on the final set just to get some more recovery. I felt horrible.

Two days previous I did my 3rd ramp test. I was not feeling so hot but got through it with a +11 improvement so was very pleased. I skipped the next day (an easy 1:30 ride) because I was really run down. Today is a planned day off and I’m still not feeling well; I’m exhausted even thought I’ve been sleeping more. Fighting something off.

Should I plow through the weekend or rest the rest of the week? What would you do?

Galena +1 for me today, this was difficult after a tough workout yesterday. Started the first block and was thinking that might be as far as I made it. Got into the 2nd and gave myself a couple backpedals, 1 more backpedal halfway through the 3rd and it was done!

First outside ride if the year. As normal I felt a bit wobbly but I was pleased to be outside. Set 1-6 mins 90 day bests on a couple of hills so I cannot have trained too badly over winter,

Day 1 of SDSR underway. Only 18 seconds shy of my stretch goal of sub-23mins, and 1:20 better with 15 avg watt improvement.

Honestly, I was expecting a better improvement to my 20min + power considering until 2 weeks ago (race season in full swing) I was following the plans very well, only missing rides if there was a race. I’m fairly sure I’m tapping out on all this super structured training considering what 4 months of it full fledged has provided me… I’m only now back to where I was at my peak in August, and that was on loosely structured training. Same weight. I had hopes. Oh well!

Done whining :raised_hands:

Working on my weaknesses for once. Pedalling squares on the last few intervals.

Brasstown. In retrospect, trying to watch Netflix on my (Android) phone while TrainerRoad ran in the background (on the same phone) was probably a bad idea.

Saint Elias (6x10 threshold 95-99%) tough but nailed it! Removed doubt that 300w was overreaching for threshold since I did 297 for 20mins (old threshold was 295). I don’t feel so bad for skipping an early group ride lol

Today I did Kaweah +1 and by “did” I mean failed. This past week I’ve had lots of additional stress from my first mtb ride in a while as well as leaf blowing 3 miles of trail. Payed the price today.
