PSA: Garmin UK/Europe have a sale direct on their website currently…
I’ve also canceled my Whoop membership based on the 4.0 debacle. I ended up getting the sensor in, but it was no different that I could tell. It included all that crap about putting it into proprietary shorts waistbands and underwear, other clothing. Basically the only thing I can tell changed is that they made some proprietary gear that is totally worthless to me. DC Rainmaker review looks like same sensor issues as before. I’m super disappointed, I was a big Whoop fan.
We are making a trip to the jewelers today for batteries, and I took a pic of a few of my watches from 1980 until today.
Does anyone wield watches/devices on both wrists or even a single wrist? I’ve been wearing my Fenix 5 non-stop for the past two years but have ditched my mechanical watches as a result. I’d like to get back to wearing mechanical watches, but want to keep wearing a smart watch/device for daily health tracking (heart rate, stress, steps, etc.) and smart notifications. The Fenix would then be reserved for when I do actual activities.
The Vivosmart 4 appears to be the slimmest option from Garmin and there are others from Fitbit.
Rolex Sea Deweller on left wrist, Vivosmart on the right (for recording weights, yoga etc).
I love those old Seikos
Those were HS and college graduation gifts from my parents, back in 1980 we were dreaming of a James Bond 007 day when a watch like that would print or scroll text messages!
Very nice
Thank you, one of those doesn’t get worn on the bike!
Me either. I have a couple of pocket watches.
I was in the same position: Looking for a more durable smartwatch with longer batterie life to replace my Apple Watch. I also stumbled upon the Garmin watches, only downside: I am (happily) using a wahoo bolt to track my rides, which is not compatible with the Garmin watches. Ultimately, I went for the Fenix. The plan is to dual record on the Watch and on the Wahoo and to simply ignore the data from the Wahoo from now on. If that’s starting to annoy me, I’m probably gonna pick up an Edge 530. They’re quite cheap to get on EBay currently.
A simpler (and cheaper solution) would have been nice, but as you mentioned the Rival is not really, well, a rival to the Garmin watches (pun intended).
I have a vivosmart 4 on the right wrist permanently but prefer mechanical watches on the left. I do use a Garmin Instinct on the bike as a rugged watch, as it also holds all the relevant functions I need for camping / racing away from home including being kicked around the tent before the inevitable rush to the start line.
use a vivoactive 3, purely from a price and use perspective. Will look to exchange it though; not satisfied (with Garmin in general)
Hey thanks for your reply. Do your indoor TR workouts sync to Garmin Connect? Seems like they do but have been wondering. If so, I assume they add to your weekly training load in connect to inform training status? Would be really nice to see how strength workouts are also impacting overall load.
Also, if Wahoo is pushing rides to TR and TR is syncing with Garmin Connect directly wouldn’t those Wahoo rides be pushed to Connect via TR?
Two classics right there, excellent watches.
I’ve been wearing my Fenix 3 non-stop for about 2 years. Even at work. My Rolex is put away in a cupboard and never comes out anymore because, although it is a thing of beauty, the functionality of the Garmin is so much more useful.
I’ve just upgraded to a Fenix 6 pro and it’s very cool indeed. Mapping is excellent, all the many many other features are excellent too.
So the Fenix 6 pro gets my vote.
Sorry I didn’t mention that: I bought the Fenix, but I haven’t been able to try it out because I was with my family during Christmas while the watch was waiting at home for me.
However, I am back at home now and (finally) have it at my wrist. I was able to connect my TR Account to Garmin connect, so I suppose it will sync future Workouts. I will test that tomorrow in practice with a trainer ride.
Concerning the Idea of syncing the Wahoo to TR and TR to Connect: That may be possible. But as far as my research before the purchase goes, the data metrics coming from the wahoo don’t match up with the data metrics Garmin connect requires. But as soon as the weather here in Germany allows, I will test that as well. If you like I will give you a heads up per DM if your Idea works as soon that I’ve done that.
Love both of those but that Sub is gorgeous.
Got the SKX009 on today.
Looks like all of the data recorded by Wahoo imports to Connect but I don’t know if it contributes to your training load stats yet because I just got the watch yesterday and it says that I have to use for 7 days before it gives you stats.
To import I just uploaded to Dropbox from the ELEMNT app then uploaded to Connect on the web with the Upload or Import Workout button. Pretty easy process.
