What Triggers a Pre-workout Survey?

I always get (and respond to) post-workout surveys. However, I only sometimes get pre-workout surveys. It might be helpful to know what was detected, if anything, to trigger the survey, just so I can be mindful, as I proceed.

In my case, my routine was changed in the prior week; I don’t know if that had anything to do with it:

  • Took first rest week of the year; did strictly nothing. This was marked as time off in TR.
  • Rapidly gained (and recorded in TR) four pounds.
  • First day back was an unscheduled long, flat, endurance ride: ~4 hours. I usually live and ride in the mountains, so my zones can get more mixed up.
  • Second day back, I did a custom VO2 Max workout of around 30 minutes.
  • My VO2 Max PL shot up to 8+; I’m in Specialty phase.

Other than ‘How motivated are you to train today’, I can’t recall any pre workout survey.

unaware of any specific trigger so i would not worry about that.

I did realize this morning that I got it at least once during my out of town holiday workouts I did but didn’t this morning. Only difference there was tablet (home) vs laptop (holiday)

This is controlled by a setting in your app’s settings menu. Scroll down and you’ll find “Motivation survey”. You can toggle it on and off. If you’re seeing it on some workouts and not others, I’d guess you may be using different devices and have it set On on one and Off on the other.

Also, just for clarity: These pre-workout motivation surveys are for data collection only and do not currently influence TrainerRoad AI or any other feature of your training.

Very helpful. In fact, I was using a different device. I used my phone, to free my tablet for entertainment. Can confirm that the phone TR-App settings were as you described.
