You won’t regret it, they are great tyres!! The Roval’s are designed around 26mm tyres. They look great on!

I like the Pro Ones but found they had poor puncture resistance compared to GP5000s (but I accept n=1). The Schwalbe One are a good all rounder IMO.
26mm Wolfpack Road Race with latex inner tubes. Feel pretty nice and roll well.
Don’t know about wear rates as due to 2020 stuff not putting the kilometres in.
I’ve mentioned it on another thread, but the Goodyear Connector gravel tire is the best gravel tire I have ridden. Highly recommended.
Just bought a second set of the 26c. A year ago I tried the 5000 TL and on the 10th ride had to insert a tube to get home. These Pirelli have about 7-8W penalty, but in 72 rides and nearly 2000 miles I haven’t had any issues.
Right now there are 10 “wet spots” on the rear tire:
I’d bet at least a few of those would have stopped the 5000 TL. Small watt penalty, roll and corner well, and just keep going and going without having to stop and fix. Perfect training tire!
Another vote for Pirellis, but this time their PZero Velo in 25c on my road bike. Ride feel has been good (if not top tier) and they feel like the roll well. Lighter than most and no punctures yet after 1000km on British roads. They look like they’d measure closer to 27mm on a 19mm ID rim.
Tried both. From my point of view it is more of a style question. I like the cottons design more because of that they seem to be faster ![]()

I live in Germany. Fall to Spring is damp wet and cold. I am running Vittorio Corso Control TLRs, tubeless. Will change out next May. ![]()
For several years I ran Continental tyres but found them costly with a high rate of sidewall failures. So I switched to Michelin, initially Kashim, then Pro 4 Endurance/Race and Power Endurance/Race as they became obsolete. I really rated them but at the time Michelin never done tubeless, so I switched to Schwalbe Pro ones and then 5000TL as that is what the local bike shop sold. The Pro Ones and 5000TL have been good tyres (trippy and good rolling) but when the latter eventually wears out I might scratch the Mitchelin itch again now they do tubeless.
Road: Schwalbe Pro Ones in 28mm. I’ve got the Addix ones with the orange on the sidewall but they feel no different to the last model. I run mine at 80/85psi on 19mm internal rims.
MTB XC: The classic Racing Ray/Racing Ralph. These are seriously good tyres, they hook up everywhere, are fast rolling and seem pretty tough so far. I run them at 21/23psi almost all the time, adding a few psi if it’s very rocky. They’re on 23mm internal rims, so not as wide as I’d like but they still puff up to a good size and don’t feel unstable.
CX: Vittoria Terreno Wets are my go to at the moment. They feel pretty quick for a ‘mud’ tyre and grip well too. I can run these at about 23/26 tubeless at 73kg but I did burp them when I last raced them. The course had lots of steep cambers and tight corners and the mud was very tacky, so perfect burp terrain. I’d not burped them before that in around 13 races and plenty of skills sessions, so I’d say that was pretty good. However, I’d be very interested in trying the new FMB open tubulars with latex tubes. Tubeless cx tyres aren’t very supple and I’d love to know what 320tpi at 20psi feels like without having to go all in on some tubular wheels.
ROAD: 25c GP5000 with Latex tubes, cause everyone else rides them so they must be the best? I used the 4000 before and was quite happy with them, but usually cut the sidewalls up before I could ever wear them down. To my delight my rear 5000 is wearing quite well, and has still not died a sidewall cutting death, so seem to be doing better than the 4000. I did slice the sidewall of one on glass, which to be fair is terminal in most situations anyway, but otherwise they’ve been good. Between all of my local buddies who have tried other comparable tires, the consensus seems to be that while some tires roll better, and some tires last better, the GP5000 blends the better characteristics of all of those into a great all around tire.
MTB: on my 21 fuel ex with 30mm rim I’m on a 2.4” Bontrager XR4, pretty pleased with them, though at times they do slide out on me but I feel like that’s more me being sloppy or maybe my position on the bike, cause they seem to get overall positive praise and I’ve set a lot of PRs on them to boot. I tried the ardent but felt like it just lacked the cornering bite of these, then again my heavier and taller friend uses Ardents on his top fuel and also sets great times on segments. I think I just need to work on my technique more, but interested in other tires also cause these won’t last forever
Continental GP5000 25c with latex tubes for summer road and TT bike - simply the best - v quick, great grip decent wear rate. Did have Corsa speeds on my TT bike for 6 months - they may be a watt quicker than the conti’s but I don’t trust them, even tubeless! ![]()
Reduces the benefit, you want the width of the tire to match the width of the rim as much as possible. If the tire is larger then it creates some air turbulence along the length of the rim. How much of an effect I have no idea, my guess is not as much as you think.
Road
GP5000 TL 28mm mounted on 25/32mm carbon rims
Gravel
Donnelly MSO WC 40
After riding the Clement xplor mso 36 for years and super reliable I recently mounted the new WC 40mm version and am loving them.
CX
Donnelly MXP 33 front and rear for most Ontario Conditions and rules
I have a set of specialized terras for mud that I run occassionally but they’re getting old so i’ll probably replace them with a PDX.
Like another poster said I think that the vast majority of racers benefit more from having extra grip than they would from minimal tread efficiencies.
MTB
Nobby Nic front, Racing Ralph rear. 2.3 I think. Hard to beat that combo.
I really like the XR4s as a front tire. They have good sized side knobs, are light but durable.
They’re a bit too much for the rear. I’m currently running a continental cross king and I really like it.
I have 38mm panaracer gravel kings, the file tread ones, on my otso warakin and I think they are perfect rail trail, road, gravel tires.
Road: Continental GP5000 25mm
Gravel: WTB Sendero 650x47mm
Rene Herse Snowqualmie Pass 700x44’s. They are like riding a fast couch…
Replaced the stock Bontragers on my Domane with Conti GP 5000’s in 32c. For a wider tire they roll fast and are very supple at lower pressures, very comfy. The stock Bontragers were very stiff.
