What Spoke Wrenches to Get

Is there any compelling reason to get individual spoke wrenches such as these

versus a 3-in-1 like these?

Cost difference is $36 vs $12.

the 3-1 feels terrible in the hand, it is easy to mix up which size end of it you are using if you set it down, it does not offer as secure of a grip on the nipples, is heavier, and has some edges that can scratch nice wheels. it’s ok to use for very occasional wheel fixes etc, but no good for wheel building IMO.

most high quality nipples take the black size wrench anyway, so a full set is not typically needed.

One advantage for me of an individual tool would be when I put a multi one down, doh, I forget which socket I’ve used and even if I remember its number I have to look round to find it again. I guess the individual ones are faster because they remove that human error :joy:

Thanks - that’s the feedback I was looking for!

i recommend the 4 sided one specifically SW-40 Four-Sided Spoke Wrench | Park Tool

I have this round one that has like 6 different sizes in one. I have built and repaired a lot of wheels with that tool. I just replaced a spoke last night.
