A good nights sleep and good food.
And the light of the sun, landscapes, a little wind, and the ability to live in the moment.

thinking I am so fit before realizing it’s actually because of the tailwind

realizing on the moment, and enjoying the fact that my actual average speed at z2 was my absolute maximum speed back when I started cycling
And the ones that brought me the most joy ( being a solo rider 99% of the time )

having some stranger, way better cyclist follow along during a part of my z2 ride, or while I’m doing hill repeats
I felt so good then
Didn’t happen In a while though… -
experienced cyclists saying I have a decent level of fitness while I’m not confident at all about it and think I should be better
Actually made me cry
Arguing with someone on the “what makes you angry” thread long enough that the other just gives up and I can pretend I won the argument.
No, really:
Sitting at breakfast after a workout (bike or run), and just enjoying the endorphin + coffee high.
Small world, I was like 10 rows behind you!
My middle daughter is getting married on June 18th. So for me at this current time, what makes me happy is EVERYTHING related to be the proud Father-of-the-Bride.
Sitting in my garden, cup of tea in-hand, watch young Blue Tits (birds ) fledgling the nest.
This morning I watched nature and saw three little birds taking flight for the first time. It was a beautiful moment.
Crushing my enemies, see them driven before…wait, wrong thread.
Sunshine.
Watching the sun come up and catching sight of deer on my early morning runs. And, whenever anyone complements my bike or my pony. And cake.
At 37 mph leading a strung-out P123 field absolutely flying into a corner during Sunday’s criterium as we chased down a break, and hearing a guy behind me yell, “Whee! NOW we’re having fun!”
That was 100% pure stoke.
… and then I was collateral damage in a crash 20 minutes later which ended my season…
… but for that one moment, my thought was “THIS. This is why I race bikes.”
When a spectacular road, specifically an epic climb is closed to cars and I get to ride it utterly alone.

Heading out late-morning for a long ride after sleeping in and leisurely getting my kit together. I can only take morning people/cyclist antics every so often!
The wife sleeping in the guest room
- Getting into mountains in an early start marathon. Caffeine from the homemade jells hitting and the mystical early mountain weather. I mean, look at it:
When I’m done with my intervals and have time to add some mellow Z2. Nothing beats the feeling when you’re starting to catch you breath again after some threshold torture: You’re Z2 Watts suddenly feel ridiculously easy after smashing the pedals for what felt like an eternity. The you start to roll up a small hill, the sun is peaking through the clouds and you know the girlfriend is waiting at home with self made pizza for dinner. Can’t help but to smile from one ear to another in these moments.
Getting up on a Saturday morning and getting an FTP bump from a race on Zwift.
That’ll make going to work later today all the sweeter.
OMG…he said the quiet part out loud!!
