What area of training do you wish you could most improve?

@agbatten, could you please open another topic for nutrition/hydration?

Sure thing.

So which is the best bang for the buck when it comes to increasing FTP? Anerobic? VO2max? Or Theeshold intervals?

I thought I heard you say in a podcast that you were going to do less SST and more harder/shorter intervals this year?

Harder stuff come crit season. For me, it’s a mix, I like to do them all.

For me the ‘Other’ is just finding the time. What with work, wife and the 4 kids it’s not wanting to but making the time to.

Hi all,

I’m new to power training. I’ve dabbled with zwift and training peaks but I’ve enjoyed combining trainer road with Netflix and sky Q. I seem to think that is the best way to keep me engaged.

In terms of the question My FTP is 332w but my weight is 101kg so I guess the area I would love to improve is my weight. I live in a very hilly area and struggle compared to slimmer cyclists.

I’m right there with you. I’d much rather do Gendarme than Petit. I know I need to work on the long and steady stuff, but man, my sit bones just hate long intervals on the trainer.

I have the hydration issue too. I live in high heat and humidity, so I drink a lot of water on the bike but then have to go every 30 minutes after the ride. Which is tough on sleep because I ride at night only 2 hours before bed.

I just wish I could train more :disappointed: Everything else falls into place with that

I do believe that you can train it. When I started running I couldn’t stomach more than 2-3 gels in a whole marathon and would be bonking by the end. After a few years of Ironman training and practicing taking in more nutrition I’m able to take in around 500 calories per hour on the bike and 300ish per hour on the run. I know I’ve done it right when I can finish a 7 hour brick workout feeling strong and not hungry after as opposed to famished and craving sugary pop after

Watched the Vegan Cyclist vid he did with Phil Gaimon and that’s the main thing he observed – a pro will go really hard when they need to go hard and NEVER go hard when they don’t have to/without a reason…opposed to an amateur rider/racer who’s always trying to up the pace.

Digging deep, FTP and w/kg is my combo. Always trying to getting deeper than last time. After the ramp test thinking to myself: maybe … :smirk: The other two are a combination of wanting to go longer fast. Maybe I’m ok compared to others in my situation. But I would really like to hit it a bit harder.

Always a good question, but I think it’s complicated.

Anyone have answers/directions to answers?
