The main field isn’t the problem. The problem is that once I more than 4 fields I can’t read the other ones. So, the zoom doesn’t do any good. I like a bright screen because it makes the numbers easier for me to read.
They’ve added steering to RGT:
Say… WHAT!!!
How did I not know that existed? It looks like that is a UK thing and I’m having trouble finding it on the US site. I didn’t even know that RGT had steering function. Crazy.
Did I miss the memo from Wahoo, @dcrainmaker or @gpl ?
ETA:
Newest?
Older?
Think it’s only been released today. Sounds like there’s a new RGT version getting released in the next couple of days to support it…
Yeah, that is what I am learning as well based on the Wahoo forum search results.
I did think about a power pack but we are talking about making it in effect an even more expensive device, whilst adding more weight / clutter to my bike, plus risk of damage to USB port - it might be different if I had a power pack anyway for other reasons. I ended up picking up a Garmin 830 in the sales (less than the cost of a Bolt, assuming due to upcoming 840…)
I have an Elite Sterzo collecting dust under wmy table stand if anyone wants it…
Steering on Zwift was such a dud.
In terms of accessories, it still amazes me that someone has not developed a small keyboard for use w/ Zwift…yeah, you can use the BT mini-keypads if you are running PC / Mac, but there are no options for tablets / phones / ATV. Make it a bit bigger than a mini-keyboard, make it IP22, include a touchpad, etc.
Grabbing your phone to use the companion app, etc. is such a pain…
I will take you up on that. I have a hack I need to video to show what I did.

Take an Elite Sterzo Smart apart, add in 30+ year old Lego Technic (the original rapid prototype tools?), then mount it to an InsideRide E-Flex Plus and you get…
-
Proper “Lean to Steer / Lane Change” in Zwift

-
It also works for “Turn Selection” on the route intersection options. Just takes a lean to the further angle and you get to pick where to go without taking hands off the bars.
-
Surprisingly fun to actually roll corners from wide entry to tight apex and exit wide again.
-
Makes drafting a bit more work but also more realistic. Just adds a bit of more realism to the interaction once you make the input/output more like outside control.
Are vowels cheaper in the UK? Should have been called the STR.
It’s our weak PND
See the dedicated topic I made early this AM for discussion.
Back on the theme of the thread, does this imply a greater focus to compete with Zwift?
Maybe, but it is a feature that is used minimally in Z from what I see. It’s possible to see whether people in the rider list on the right are using steering (small wheel icon). From my causal check at times, there are not many people using it in random riding at least (or those that I ride around that may be doing races or events).
Been a while since I looked, but there weren’t a ton of races that even allowed steering. Despite adding it to the feature set, Z have done little with it in the couple of years they’ve had it. Perhaps RGT aims to do something more with it and will push it better than Z did. But I fail to see this as enough of a feature to draw people over from Z. There are many other considerations that seem more important to the riders I’ve seen discussion the two apps.
100%…this is classic “people talking to themselves in a room” product development.
Steering in Zwift was a colossal bust….very low adoption rate and almost zero support from Zwift after launch.
I’d argue it was a colossal bust because Zwift basically killed it less than 24hrs after they announced it. The decision to make all events off by default is what killed it.
Agreed…that was definitely one of the major factors I was alluding to when I said “zero support” after launch….also never had ANT+ support, no additional trails like Repack Ridge, etc.
Has anyone got a video of a Zwift race sprint with a steering unit?
I know id be in the wall
- Per the BikeRumor article I linked in the dedicated topic, the last line has a bit of hope:
Wahoo has also added a new ‘KICKR Race Mode’ to its indoor trainers. This mode broadcasts power up to 10 times faster than standard trainers, giving riders an advantage at critical race stages. Race Mode is available on the new KICKR Smart Trainers with built-in WiFi and will be available on previous versions of the KICKR with the use of the KICKR Direct Connect WiFi adapter.
- I do think they have a minor error with the 2nd mention of “WiFi”, but it seems Race Mode should be coming to the V5 Kickr since it offers the DirCon cable option.
NOTE: KICKR Direct Connect is ONLY compatible with KICKR v5, KICKR V6, KICKR ROLLR and KICKR BIKE V2. It is NOT compatible with previous KICKR editions, KICKR CORE, KICKR SNAP, and KICKR BIKE V1.
