With winter approaching here in the Midwest, I’m looking to replace my Wahoo Kickr Snap, which was destroyed in a house fire last month along with my dedicated “cheap” bike.
I’m hesitant to use my road bike (S-Works Aethos) on a direct-drive trainer like the Kickr Core because I want to avoid extra wear and tear on it.
I’m considering the Wahoo Kickr Shift trainer and wondering if it’s fully compatible with TrainerRoad’s resistance mode? Any insights or experiences with this setup would be really helpful!
As far as the Wahoo KICKR BIKE SHIFT goes, it’s compatible with ERG Mode and Resistance Mode with TR via ANT+ or BLE.
This bike features a grade simulation feature similar to that of the KICKR CLIMB, but it is not supported in TR (although it can be changed from the handlebars).
There’s actually a nice review that DC Rainmaker did about it, testing it on TR:
I’m on the original KICKR bike and I have really loved it.
I do most of my workouts in ERG and have an older Surface tablet/ that I use. ERG works perfectly fine but Resistance mode does not work with my KICKR bike and the older Surface tablet. Presumably it is related to the Surface having an older Bluetooth protocol. However if I use my Android phone or tablet (current gen Samsung devices) then Resistance mode works perfectly with it.
Long story short, the KICKR Bike is not the limiter but the device I’m pairing it to can be.
