Wahoo Kickr Core not turning on

Hi All,

I’m having some issues with my Wahoo Kickr Core V1 which I purchased second hand, but brand new in box. Has been sat in the box for a few years unused.

After setting it up, the trainer does not power on correctly. When I plug in the power supply, the trainer lights briefly flash and then immediately turn off. The power adapter itself shows a green light when connected to the wall, but this light goes out as soon as it is plugged into the trainer. When I unplug the power supply, the green light comes back on after about 30 seconds.

I’m not sure if it’s just a faulty power supply, or more worryingly an issue with the trainer itself. Has anyone else had the same problem and managed to solve it? Thanks!

They have always had good customer support for me, even if it’s not still under warranty they should help you troubleshoot and tell you if it’s toast or not. I did have my Kickr Core v1 die on me with what sounds like the issue you’re having and they replaced it under warranty, it’s worth at least getting the troubleshooting steps from them. Might be worth checking with any cycling groups you have to see if someone will let you borrow a power supply to test with just to eliminate that.

Thanks, I’ve gotten in touch with support but no reply yet. Did they ever get to the bottom of what happened with your trainer?

I bought the unit second hand so don’t have original proof of purchase which might prove an issue for replacement. Would definitely be out of warranty period as well as has been a few years. Will see how it goes…

Never confirmed what the issue was, since I was still under support they replaced it since it wouldnt’ connect to my Wahoo app or any devices. From what I remember the troubleshooting was basically trying to get it to connect via the Wahoo app, doing the usual power cycle, try to see if it will update, etc.

I see, thanks. My trainer doesn’t even power on - lights just flash for about half a second before turning off. It seems like it doesn’t receive any power at all, and no way at all to connect it to the app or any other devices as it’s not receiving any power. Did they ever get you to try another power supply? I’ll get another power supply to see if this will fix it. If not, I think I’m out of luck :frowning:

It’s hard to remember for sure, this was about 7 or 8 years ago. I also had a Kickr Snap at the time so I think I did try using that power supply to see if it would help but it didn’t, but also not 100% sure if it normally would work or not.

I see, thanks so much for your help. Did the lights on your trainer stay on at all, or did they just flash and then turn back off?

I think this will be a dead processor board in the Kickr caused by ESD. If you search around on this forum you’ll find other posts about it. My v1 Kickr died during an electrical storm… Wahoo support were good (if a bit slow) and even though it was well out of support they gave a good discount on either a new or reconditioned one.

Thanks. I’ve read around a fair bit and ESD popped up, but the symptoms don’t really match up with what I’ve seen online. People have mostly had cuts in power measurements/cadence/speed measurements, nothing I’ve seen about the unit not even turning on. Have you heard of anyone with this problem?

There are some Reddit threads (this is one) about a similar issue (it doesn’t power on). I know in that case it was caused by the guy plugging in the wrong PSU, but I’m sure I’ve seen ones for ESD too.

Trying to fix it might be a fun side quest, but it doesn’t sound quick or easy…

Thanks Steve. Only real difference in my case is that the lights do flash on for about half a second when I plug it in, before turning back off again. Hoping it’s a power supply issue, have a replacement on the way. I guess I will just have to see if that works. If not, I’ve got quite an expensive door stop on my hands…
