Just an update, my Xpower P-230 AT arrived and what a beast!!! Much more powerful than my big floor fan and crappy Honeywell! What a gem!! ![]()

How easy is it to position it vertically to hit you in the right spot? Just stick a few books underneath or something?
Lasko is a good brand but the basic blower type fan they sell is not unique.
The Wahoo fan sounds ridiculous for the price they want. I could see using a remote variable speed every once in a while as sometimes I start off in a cold room and I might even pay $100 for that assuming the fan performed as well as my Lasko, but $250 is crazy. They must be laughing every time some fool buys one.
If you want remote on off, you can do that with any fan $14 with one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0087EIDRS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Yeah, that’s it. It goes from flat, flat with a little wire prop (which isn’t much good) 45 and 90 degrees. But nothing in between, which is a shame.
A couple of books would suffice to prop it up, but the blast, because it’s concentrated from the funnel is insane
Sadly, I was restricted with options. Like I mentioned, we can’t get the Lasko in this country, and importing it amounts to the same price as the wahoo (almost).
That’s academic now, and that is thanks to @DaveWh for identifying a similar power blower to the Lasko for a fraction of the price of the Wahoo! Awesome!!
Images are taken at close to two foot and away - That’s about 6 inches or so shy from face and body. Second to last Image is pretty close to the fan - 42.6mph.
So first Image Lowest setting - 25.2MPH
Second Image Number two setting - Wahoo Headwind? 30.9 MPH
Third Image - Maximum setting 36.9MPH - Pretty bloody gusty!!
This is nearly against the the funnel - 42.8 MPH!!!
Fourth image - Big 18 inch blade directional ground fan - 14 MPH - Similar distance
Finally, the Honeywell - 10.3 MPH - How people rate these for indoor training is beyond me. More to the point, how have I coped for over two years of indoor training, with cooling like this?!!
Like a few of you mentioned, is it worth the money for the links for the Wahoo - I’d like a work around like yours @DaveWh. But for the time being, I can feel them Watts going up nicely now!! haha
Nice! Have you used it yet for a session on the bike? How did it feel vs your previous fan(s)?
Not put it completely to the sword, yet. Next session is Thursday, and if the air speed and feel is anything to go by, it’s like night and day
You might need to wear a jacket when warming up ![]()

Haha I know! It’ll definitely come into its own for them Vo2 sessions and possibly the super long LT1 sessions.
Hi, possible to give me the dimensions of the unit? Need to rtry and fit it inside a suitcase.
Also, curious, what is that instrument you are using to measure the air speed?
Finally, is it very noisy?
Is this the one you bought?
Have people found that switching to a lasko has increased their performance training indoors (in terms of actual wattage)?
I switched from a poor fan far away, to a better fan closer. AC always on though. After getting the better fan, I find no puddles of sweat, or at least less amount of sweat on the floor, and I find it easier to complete hard intervals. Wattage? Nope.
Presumably lower RPE would lead to greater power output, no?
Should be. Not measured though. Just been a few days with the better setup.
Maybe only a few watts, but yes. And a few watts is the difference between the hardest intervals being doable, or being too hard. I think the problem gets worse the higher your FTP (since, remember, the more force you produce the more waste heat byproduct is generated), but I’ve always figured that sufficient cooling is a really big part of the variance people experience with indoor vs. outdoors FTP.
Yeah, that’s the one! Dimensions are on there. Suitcase?! It’s not massive, but I’m not sure about that.
Noisy? Yep, it is at maximum mate, but not painfully loud. It’s the noise of the wind. Nearly 40mph howler hahaha I’m no engineer, but not sure how they would make them quiet. The decibel count is on Amazon I think as well.
On a serious note, if it was pinned to the direction of your head all the time, you might think about earplugs because of wind noise!
It’s a anemometer, temp, barometer gauge - Skywatch.
I think Chad had mentioned about an ice vest on a recent podcast. And how that made his sessions more productive.
If you’re not sufficiently cooled, your phsiology is gonna be playing hardball with your psychology. Efforts might be then pinned at a level that is just a tad too high, possibly negative gains, difficult recovery, etc, etc… All for a good fan ![]()
I think it’s massive mate. Something I’ve just been complacent to, though. Had two fans (crap) and just I took the mentality of, suck it up buttercup and crack on. Even through the summer where we having ridiculous heat and just got on with it.
Even though it was nagging, " get another fan" I was yearning for a powerful directional one to really help with evaporative cooling.
Since I’m doing a large of body of long trainer rides, I need it now. I needed it before.
Again, on another podcast, @jonathon has mentioned about the merits of proper cooling. A bit extreme, but they gave examples of being in saunas and training and performance significantly deteriorating. Not a great deal of differnce, to being in a room, that’s well insulated at 35°c and trying to put out Vo2 max inters
OK, thanks.
I think I snagged the last one in stock. Ordered it to Athens. Travelling there in a few weeks. Showed as only one more before ordering, and out of stock now ![]()
