Wahoo Elemnt Bolt (V2 Color)

Default outside workout screen on a 530 is shown here:

Its a simplified version of the TR app’s live workout display

Wondering if Wahoo added anything like that?

Cool, that is pretty nice on the Garmin. I’m curious to see what the V2 offers as well.

Got your DM and shared some screenshots. For other folks, the power field for zone color is found in the “Power Avg over time” category after tapping on the Power category. Scroll to the bottom and it has 3 sec, 5 sec, etc. and all of them can provide zone color.

@Power13 good point on the colors. I would think that it would still be possible, but that certainly could be a limitation that makes it not come to the Roam. I hadn’t thought about that.

Just returned the Roam I bought 2 months and swapped it out for the new Bolt (and $100 back in cash) thanks to REI’s lenient return policy. Wasn’t too happy with how big the Roam was after coming from an 820 so was ecstatic to see the new Bolt was basically a smaller Roam (give or take)

Got my v2 today. It paired up easily with my phone. The screen looks great outdoors, but in lower light inside it looks pretty dingy. The viewing angle deteriorates rapidly if not viewing straight-on. I couldn’t get my outdoors polar (h7?) strap to pair (could be battery, I guess, but it was fine a few days ago), so I grabbed my h9 polar from my trainer and it paired right up. My routes were “just there” already, so I did a 30-miler and no problem. I decided to not be brave and test the re-routing. When I got home, it sync’d right up to strava (I think I left the app connected, which I don’t normally do, so not sure if it was a wifi-sync).

Regarding low light indoors. I think the unit is set to have the backlight default to off. I had to change it to auto and now it adjusts to the ambient light setting for me.

I remember coming across this bit in a review I read. I don’t know if it’s true, but if it is, there’s potential for the Roam to match the Bolt 2:

Interestingly, Wahoo told us that both devices are technically capable of displaying a wider colour palette, but this has been reduced to just 64 colours in favour of an easier-to-read and understand interface. That does also mean there’s some potential scope for future updates here.

I too cannot find the (zone color) fields. I also want a straight power field with zone color but in the select fields dialog I don’t see any options for zone colored fields. I’ve cut a support request to Wahoo to see what they have to say.

Please keep me posted on their response! I haven’t yet submitted a support ticket, but will probably hold off if you’ll keep me posted. Thanks!

The only zone color fields I’ve found are for HR and for the Power Avg over time options. I use 3 sec average on the road. Do you and @agbatten have iPhones by chance? I’m on Android. Wondering if there’s a weird quirk happening depending on the OS/Phone.

Yes I have an iPhone.

Yeah, I have an iPhone as well. Seems like it’s a bug then. I hope they add the zone color option though to more than just those two fields.

Same here. I’d love to set speed zones for some of the group rides where we do a pace line because speed becomes the dominating field. One quick glance to know I’m at the right speed for where I am in line would be awesome.

Just updated the my Roam and I am not seeing any color field options for the metrics.

Bummer. I was really hoping it would get the same treatment as the V2.

I guess it’s easier to implement colour coding for data that is linked to defined zones in the Elemnt app - i.e. power and HR. As speed isn’t specifically zoned then I’m not sure how colour coding would work as it stands. Perhaps user-defined zones could be added to the app and allow implementation down the line.

That’s my thought. They can simply make another set of zones for speed using the HR or Power ones they currently have, and the user can set the values themselves. You can set the values for the HR and Power zones so there’s no reason you couldn’t be given that option for speed imo.

I’m having a strange issue with my new Bolt V2 - every time I select a route on the device it completely freezes and needs to be restarted before it works again. I’ve reached out to Wahoo support but would be interested to know if anyone had come across this.

I’m finding connecting the v2 to phone and some devices slower and less consistent compared to v1.

The phone app can take a lot longer to connect.

Device connections are a bit random. The power pedals (used both vectors and favero) connect fine and have zero drop outs but hrm (used both viiiiva and tickr and fresh batteries in both) have drop outs and the varia radar disconnects randomly for the first 30 minutes or so of each ride.

Routing and everything else has been flawless so far.

I haven’t had that problem at all. Route selection and changing routes has been fine.
