Very minor ftp boast... (compared to most of you guys anyway)

Which plan progression did you do?
Thanks

Well, not what is recommended & not what I’m doing now. I made 2 dumb mistakes -vanity ftp I had no business with & high volume because I thought I could handle it. I started with SSBMV1 then decided SSBHV1 would be a good idea, it wasn’t. I went into sustained power build mv & completely fell apart. I backed down to low volume, dropped my ftp & finished ok. Then I did SSBLV2 followed by short power build lv. I was fit, strong & fast but chondromalatia & a torn meniscus caught up with me. I’m back around 225 now & starting sustained power build low volume.

Well done, that’s an awesome improvement for sure. And after 13 years off? Hell yeah.

Thank you for your service.

@ccftri thanks, appreciate it - but to be clear i was a British Army officer, in the infantry, worked with your guys a lot though here and there…

@ChrisCycle hi, i’m on medium volume, i finished base 1 and 2 and now about to finish my first build.

I’m not sure what program exactly, i have no races planned or event, i just wanted to get better at my local roads, so selected ā€˜climbing race’ as my ultimate goal when setting up the program

Wow, well hope you are totally healed up now. That’s an ugly injury. Questions: which build ( short or sustained ) do you think have you the most improvement in you FTP. I’m not racer I just enjoy riding. Thanks a bunch

Knee is doing well, unfortunately I crashed a couple of weeks ago & got a pretty nasty concussion so I’m nursing that right now.

I’m not sure exactly what to tell you to build ftp. For me, I found short power build to fit mountain biking incredibly well. I could do quick hard accelerations over & over & over again. It definitely raised my ftp. My weakness is sustained power output so I’m working on that now & figure I’ll let the mtb fitness sort itself out. I was going to race Shenandoah Mountain 100 again this year but I’m not sure if I’ll make the trip. There are 5 or 6 extended climbs on that course & I think being able to put out sustained power for longer periods of time round definitely help me there.

There are quite a few podcasts to check out with info on building ftp & I think I there is a recent TR blog post to that affect, as well. Good luck!
