Use pedal power meter to control indoor workouts run on Wahoo Bolt controlling Wahoo Kickr SNAP

Weird use case here not specific to TR. I’ve bought a non TR training plan that delivers workouts to my Wahoo Element Bolt V2 via Training Peaks. I want to run these workouts indoors in ERG mode using my Wahoo Kickr SNAP, but I don’t want to to use the power meter on the SNAP, but rather my Favero Assioma pedals.

I have successfully syncd things so the Training Peaks workouts show up on my head unit. I’ve also successfully syncd my SNAP trainer and my Favero pedals to my Bolt. When I run the workout (i’ve selected to run the file “indoors”) things seem relatively fine. My SNAP trainer is controlled by my head unit and workloads change at the right times in ERG setting. However, it appears that the SNAP is using its own power meter to clamp things in ERG mode. I can’t figure out how to tell it to use the pedals (which are also syncd to the head unit) to regulate power rather than the power meter internal to the SNAP.

I know it is using the SNAP power meter as the power trace is super smooth and not stochastic… also my SNAP power numbers are lower than my Favero power numbers… that is why I want to use the Favero numbers as they will allow realistic comparisons and match efforts on both my indoor and outdoor rides.

Anyone know how I can run these indoor workouts using my SNAP in ERG mode off my Bolt using my Favero pedals, rather than the SNAP to control power?

Figure I am missing something very simple here.

It’s been a while since I’ve done it but I am pretty sure in the Wahoo Utility app you have to enable control from a 3rd party power meter. Should be a toggle somewhere in there.

I looked all around for a way in the app to select the power meter used and can’t find it. I setup my riding rig and played around with it more… even with the SNAPs power meter removed from my sensor list (only the smart trainer remaining as a sensor and my favero pedals as the only power meter listed) it still does the same thing… using the SNAPs power meter to run the workout. Anyone else have any ideas?

Did you ever resolve this issue?

nope. never was able to figure it out.

As @stickmandj said, I think you have to enable a setting in the Wahoo app. I checked mine last night and the relevant setting shows up after you’ve connected to the Kickr in the app. It’s the ‘Control w/ ANT+ power meter’ setting that’s needs to be enabled and once it is you need to specify the ANT+ ID of your power meter.

Have never tried it myself but I think this is the setting you need.

Edit - found the link on the Wahoo website ANT+ power meter trainer control with the Wahoo app – Wahoo Fitness Support

I did it with a 2T and Asiomas altered to use Ultegra bodies. It worked, but the result wasn’t smooth. Someone said it was a ‘feedback loop’, which made no sense, but I dropped the attempt. I had no reason to do what I did except curiosity. It seemed like the 2T was struggling to anticipate the demand, and was a little less accurate, smooth. It did work, but at least in my setup, it’s better to have the 2T do the measuring and delivery of the pain.
