This is a good point. It isn’t always about making sure you have all the things you need, but WHERE they are in terms of need. Dyna Plugs and CO2 should be easily accessible as should mud tools if there’s mud on the course. Cone wrenches and bottom bracket tool, probably safe to leave them in the bottom of the camel back.

Apidura makes a nice bladder that is shaped like a wedge to fit in the bottom. That is the flap hanging out.
This is very close to what my UGXL setup is going to look like, except half frame bag + 2 bottles and a larger saddle bag. And no aero bars! #aerowhat #aerowho.

Anyone here got leads on where I might be able to buy some Specialized Pathfinder Pro 42s?! Can’t seem to find any in stock anywhere! I have a set of 650b x 47s that I was planning to bring as backup wheels incase something goes wrong during pre rides, but would love to get some of the 42s.
Alternatively, hit me with some tire recommendations!
I would go with a tire with good flat protection.
I ran pathfinder pros but if you can’t find them figure out the next most durable tire in my opinion
Goodyear Connector Ultimates….best gravel tire I have ever ridden.
I know people have used the Pathfinder Pro’s for Unbound (with great success), but it isn’t really a tire I would personally choose. I don’t think having large smooth sections of tread provide the best protection for the sharp flint out there. But I will be running it for SBT GRVL this year.
I’ve used Teravail Cannoballs and Rene Herse Hurricane Ridge Endurance casing. Both worked well for me. I’m running 38 Pathfinder Pros now but will put the Hurricane ridge back on for Unbound.
I use a Camelbak Chase hydration pack. A small top tube pack for gels and bars. And a seat pack with some some tools and tube.
I also try to keep Co2, inflator, and tubeless patches in ready access. Tubes, multi-tool, sidewalk patches can be packed away.
Isn’t it really the sidewalls that are that get most frequently sliced by the flint? I don’t know that the pathfinders have larger sidewalls than any other tires. And they may not be a knobby tire but they’re not slick.
How are people planning their hydration strategy with the new stop set up. 40 miles in you can get water. 80 mile checkpoint for full restock. 120 more water. And 160 full restock.
I think I’m going to use my Camelbak Chase, a one liter bottle and a smaller bottle. Have all filled with drink mix and then at the water stop just fill the bottles with water. Redo at mile 80 and 160.
2 1L bottles of mix and a Chase vest of water.
Likely skip the first stop.

Also, I’m trying track down the S-Work Pathfinder which the new lighter version.
Here is how I look it…in chunky gravel like Unbound, having knobs gives the edges of rocks someplace to go besides into the tires. And if it does go into the tires, it will likely be into knobs, not the casing.
Again, lots of people have used Pathfindrs at Unbound….I just personally would want a some more knobs.
A question for this thread: for a long gravel race where you’re carrying bottles and a hydration pack, which do you drink first? Why? I’ve got a race coming up this weekend. Temps will be cool and I should be able to carry enough to do the whole thing without stopping.
I put drink mix in the bottles and just water in the pack. Then I dont have to guess which has what. I know that every hour i need to be through a bottle and the hydration pack provides extra fluids. If your doing 100 miles on just bottles and hydration pack, maybe mix the bottles with more calories and dont drink them as fast.
