Tubeless road tire 2023

Sadly I just gave up on the N.EXT. I got a nasty puncture in the front that I was able to dynaplug but it started seeping after a couple more rides. When I was checking the rear, the tread had a nasty slash that was bound to lead to a puncture eventually.

The ride quality was terrific! But I’ve killed every Vittoria I’ve ever had within a few hundred miles. Time to give Schwalbe a try.

Just one tire? What sealant? I’ve had to patch every fast tubeless within 500 miles on Orange Seal regular.

Size?

28c. One was dead and one was mortally wounded, so I put them both out of their misery.

I have a big bottle of the blue Bontrager sealant, which I think is pretty Stan’s-ish. Once that’s gone I’ll likely try the Silca one.

I’ve used Conti a lot but I was intrigued to try something else. If Schwalbe doesn’t work out I’ll come crawling back.

My N.EXTs are coming this week. Will see how it goes with 32c on the rear (the problem tire) and 28c front.

I’ve been very happy with mine, running 30mm up front and 32mm in the rear. Orangeseal as well. I only have maybe 500 miles on them since I’m not brave enough to ride under 35F in New England :rofl:

I’ll be curious how they work for you since your roads always seem to be a mess of debris!

@Wheatstraw53 I’m a little suprised you’d want to go to Schwalbe…I love Pro One’s but they weren’t particularly durable in my experience. Might be worth trying Orangeseal too :thinking::thinking:

I’ve never tried Conti tires as I’ve heard the horror stories of how hard they are too mount and expected I would struggle to break the bead put a tube in and remount the bead at the side of the road.

Is this still an issue with the Conti TR S? My road race bike isn’t tubeless but went for the Power Cups (to replace my worn Turbo Cottons) over tube type GP 5000s because I heard the Contis were hard to mount

sure, I get it. Sometimes certain tires just work for certain people, so I’m taking a shot.

The Stans/Bontrager sealant has worked pretty well for me in general. For this last failure, the breach in the tire was big enough that the plug could barely fill the space, so I’m doubtful that any sealant could have truly done the job over the long term.

My comment may have come off negatively and if so, I apologize!! I ran Pro Ones for a while and they were comfortable and easy to mount. Good luck!!

Ha, no I didn’t take it that way at all! I agree that the setup process was easily the best of any tire I’ve used.

One ride in and the the comfort/handling was excellent–so far, so good…

The interesting thing is that I just generated a new table, and only filtered on tubeless and 47 puncture resistance of the first gen GP 5000 TL.

No Continental tires on the list.

My feedback on Corsa N.EXT TLR vs S-Works Turbo 2BR T2/T5

~1500 miles on the 2BR T2/T5 before I retired them, and I could still see the wear indicator.

~1000 miles on the Corsa N.EXT and the rear tire I can no longer see the wear indicator.

Both sealed well, both rolled well, both had good road feel.

Rear tire. The front looks like it will go to 1500 or 2000 miles.

Yeah that seems a little low. But, I heard @WindWarrior is laying down like 379W for 2 hours; stops for old ladies at cross walks; and waves at everyone.

Seriously though, I skipped the Vittoria next as the rubber compound seemed super soft. Right or wrong I was thinking how quickly they’d wear. I bet they ride better than the gp5k though…

So what is the general consensus if I’m after a 28 or even 30 wide tubeless tyre and I’m mainly looking for comfort?

I mean, I don’t want to completely compromise rolling and puncture resistance but comfort for me is the top priority.

So far I’ve been pretty unimpressed with the three or four different types of tubeless tyres I’ve had over the years - as they aged weird things started happening to the rubber, pockets of bubbles in the carcass, delaminated sides and with my current (admitably first gen tubeless) gp5000 the side walls are starting to come apart at the threads - I have to trim them like a haircut before every ride FFS🤣

I’m looking at Goodyear eagle F1 if only because I haven’t tried them and they are a little cheaper than the competition.

LOL as a matter of fact, I do wave at everyone, and slow to a crawl when passing people on the bike trail. But 379W, subtract 100 and thats my all-time best 35 minutes, or this years too lazy to go longer than 22 minutes best :sloth:

Quick $ per mile calc for my two favorites so far:

  • 5.3 cents per mile for REAR S-Works Turbo 2BR T2/T5 tire ($80/tire)
  • 5.2 cents per mile for REAR Corsa N.EXT ($54/tire)

without tax and shipping.

Less than a week ago I could just barely find the wear dot on the Corsa N.EXT. Then 2 or 3 rides later (100+ miles) it was gone.

My tubed Conti GP4K II and GP5000 rear tires all got lost their shape and ended with the huge flat tread after 1000-1200 miles, so there’s that. Like an obvious flat spot on the tread, starts to ride crappy type of flat spot. And of course with tubes those tires would flat every 3-4 weeks on average, from either the tiny wires from radial tires, or from goat heads, or from screws/nails. So there’s that and why I prefer tubeless.

not on the tarmac, instead the carbon wheels are usually enough. Although sometimes I have to practice my yodeling.

REAR tire, again wanted to make that clear.

Ok I used a wet rag to swipe the tire - it was looking a little dirty and its Monday. Didn’t want to ride past one of my Wed night riding buddies tonight with such sorry looking black tires having random white stuff (?) on the side walls.

Behold:

nice flat spot forming in the center tread, like all my tires, and then I looked where the wear dot was suppose to be, and there it was!

Now I’m forecasting 1200-1500 miles for the REAR tire.

I had the same problem, which was a crying shame, because they were (and still are) the best handling and fastest tires I ever rode. tread separated even faster when I rode them on the rollers. I went through a half dozen tires, with Specialized and my LBS offering warranty replacements before I finally gave them up. I still have a pair stashed away in case I ever get serious about a make or break time trial, but they were just too fragile for anything other than race day only use for me.

An update from the OP

So I opted for the new Pirelli P Zero Race TLR in 28mm. They make my bank account scream, but really puts a smile on my face! Tubeless setup was very easy. Front even popped without the booster pump. Holds air very well (one of my biggest issues with the Veloflex!).
Excellent road feel! Comfortable but quick!
I’ve ridden more mtb this year so can’t comment on the durability, but I don’t see any wear yet with about 1000km of tarmac riding.

Highly recommended, but pricey!

1600 miles / 2600km

If I wipe the tires I can still see the rear wear dot. Here’s the deal - I’ve run over a lot of road debris and these are holding strong. Have a backup set in the garage. Haven’t topped off the sealant, feeling like I’m living on borrowed time.

Tomorrow my Specialized Mondo tires arrive and going on the bike for a gravel event in 2 months. Want to do a comparison and then will put the new N.EXT tires on the bike.

Really happy with the N.EXT tubeless tires.

I’ve tried the Corsa race and evo and both held air pretty well. I also cycle through the center of Amsterdam a lot (in the mornings, so glass everywhere) without too many flats. I did get stuck in tram tracks once, which meant the end of that tyre
