I may get roasted for this, but as a triathlete who trains 10-15 hours per week, I’m struggling to effectively use TrainNow.
1. I get about 2-3 yellow days per week every week. This wouldn’t be a big issue if not for the fact that TrainNow on a yellow day will only give me endurance workouts. I wish there was a way to override that and select a threshold/sweet spot workout. Instead, I just manually select a workout. I’m not sure it’s set up properly for the reality of triathlon training. Unfortunately, triathletes need to train hard on yellow days.
Other times, TrainNow recommends oddly difficult workouts. I did a race yesterday where I rode for an hour and set a new 1hr power PR. Today when I select 90 mins, TrainNow’s first recommendation is threshold over/unders. That seems incorrect.
Yes, train now gives me nonsensical recommendations the majority of the time. Then on a yellow day it gives a harder endurance day, and one time i followed it and it then decided i needed one more yellow day. It still recommends that sane workout on a yellow day.
Yes, when TrainNow fails to do what I want, that’s what I do, I go to AI Workouts → Category. However that’s a bit more cumbersome, it requires to me to select the specific workout type (eg. VO2 Max on-offs vs VO2 Max traditional), and it also requires me to “schedule” it, eg. I can’t just load it immediately without first adding it to my calendar.
Here’s an example of where I desired to do a high intensity workout on a yellow day. The prior day was run/strength/swim. There’s no way to “rate” those workouts to my knowledge.
Hi Eddie, we discussed this back in August when it happened. It recommended Leavitt-5 which is a minus of a tempo workout, not what I’d call an ideal yellow day workout. What’s not shown though is on Tuesday, it recommended another similar ride of around .7 IF. If I have a scheduled workout on my calendar, I don’t get a suggested workout so I don’t know what it would suggest now but I’ll often get this sort of suggestion on the same day I log a run if I don’t already have the next ride in the calendar.
