Training stress score

Just about every week I get an over training score/warning. I’ve done 2 x 1 hr training ride this week and it has reduced the planned ride today to a pointless 45 mins spin at 60% of ftp. Is training two hours a week that stressful. Before coming on here, I would Sunday social IRL 5 hours, Monday 1 hour zwift, Tuesday track racing, Wednesday off, Thursday Tt race on zwift , Friday 1 hr zwift. Sat off. Now it seems Tuesday and Thursday is too much.

45m at 60% is not pointless, you got some volume in and that always helps a bit in the long run

What has your training looked like over the last few weeks?

I would not expect TR to warn about over training on 2hr a week if your previous history was ~8hr?

Hopefully someone from the tr team can look into it as it sounds weird that you should be getting those warnings.

Did you import your ride history into TR? If not, it has no way of knowing what you’re historically capable of. If you did import your ride history, I’d reach out to TR support to see why it’s giving you such low volume.

Hi

Thanks for your comment, I haven’t done any training until Tuesday this week as I’ve had and still have a bit of chest infection. So I have had a week off previously.
I have just done it the workout, 60 mins, HR barely above 105 feels pretty pointless to me, but I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

I believe so as I have linked it to strava and Garmin etc.

So you took a week off for illness…I would be ecstatic that my coach recognized that and went easy on me as I work back in!

What does this recommend for you volume wise?

Unless you requested 2hr a week I find it strange that it would give you that based on your training history.

Coming off illness having an easier session makes sense but you mention getting these warnings most weeks, are you starting up training again after a longer break? What type of sessions were you doing when getting those warnings?

Lol

I’ve tried checking the volume, but it tries to rebuild the plan I have already done.
No long lay off, when I had the initial call, I asked for my Sunday ride to be put in. She said that it put me over if she entered 4 hrs, settled on 2.5, which I won’t be doing as it’s a club ride usually around 40 - 50 miles with 5-6000 ft 1500m climbing. Curse and blessing of living in a hilly area.

Not to worry mate, I’ll just see how it goes and ignore it and cancel should keep persisting with these yellow and red warning.

Can you post a link to your calendar or screenshots of the past few months? Would be good to see so we can give you the best response.

It’s because the TR machine learning doesn’t. It simply doesn’t learn no matter your history it throws up random yellow/red lights. There’s a thread on it.

I don’t see much for training history in your career.

I’m seeing a lot of weeks with 30-90 minutes of running and no cycling, and the most you’ve ridden since April of 2024 is three hours during the first week of October.

I’m guessing that we’re missing some of your data if you’ve been riding like you said in your first comment. Do all of your bike rides go through Strava, or just Garmin?

Hi mate,

yes they are linked. Quite a lot of information missing. So I assume it shows no track racing, TT racing, football or Sunday club rides.

Not to worry, I’ll keep for what I fo and let it catch up or not.

Where are you recording all of those activities? Once you sync that source to TR, things should populate. There won’t be any need to let them catch up.

Strava and Garmin connect

Okay, I’ve got the right account now. Thanks for that.

I think your issue here is putting a Zwift race the day before one of your hard TR workouts.

Last week’s race was 48:30 long with an IF of .96. :face_with_thermometer:

You also had another ride of over 20 minutes with an IF of .74, so Thursdays are definitely not easy, which means that Friday should really be an easy/rest day, not a hard workout day.

OK, thanks for that. Yeah the 20 mins before is the warm up for the TT race on the Thursday. It’s just what I’m accustomed to as I would usually do an hour on Friday at 2.5 to 3 watts chase ride or a 2 hour velodrome training session.

It just feels too easy at the moment, but hey ho we’ll see how we go.

I’m a former Royal Marine so I have a train hard mind set which now a days is uncommon.

Thanks for getting back to me

Just be careful with that mindset. It can get you into trouble over the long haul!

If things don’t start to feel appropriate for you, I’d recommend switching your training load from Demanding to Aggressive.

I’d give it a little time, but keep in mind that you may always get yellow days after those TT races. :downcast_face_with_sweat:
