Hello everyone.
I was a long distance runner before an injury last year made me shift my focus to cycling - less imapact on my 59 year old body. My cycling workouts are enjoyable and intense. TR has been worthwhile.
I have a Garmin watch that tracks my steps. I am supposed to hit at 10K steps a day but only do about 8K a day.
Should I stress about the lack of steps as my cycling workouts are 5 days a week through my plan on TR?
Feedback and comments are appreciated.
Or, you can change your steps goal. Depends on your goals.
I did that but I feel like I’m cheating. My focus is cycling. I guess the lack of steps is no biggie.
For myself, the only thing I’m concerned with is my streak so I have it set at 3000 although I get double that consistently. Steps are not part of my training. I wouldn’t feel guilty.
10,000 steps is a guideline intended to encourage low/moderate activity for the general (sedentary) public. You’re riding 5 days a week. You should not worry about tracking daily steps and certainly not worry about getting to an arbitrary number like 10,000.
If you look at where 10,000 came from you quickly realize that it’s a number as likely plucked out of thin air as anything. It’s based on a Japanese marketing campaign aimed at getting their population to be more active around the 1964 Olympic games, and the doctor who came up with it (and then sold pedometers based on it) picked 10,000 because the Kanji character for that number resembles a person walking.
Excellent point. I am riding between 60-100 miles a week and some of my workouts are TR workouts that are OverUnders which are intense. Thanks for your help!
