TrainerRoad’s Biggest Update Ever Is Coming 👀

I took pause on that initially too, but I don’t think it was meant in the modern negative sense, but instead as in, “We’re all unique individuals, and should all have unique daily goals based on a multitude of factors”.

don’t take “snowflake “ as an insult it’s a saying no 2 people are the same even identical twins

Will the update also change/enhance how additional training is worked into the load of training? I do a couple of other activities however last year I very much focussed just on cycling and reduced other “fun” activities that maybe in a way complement cycling workouts? I want to focus or not neglect strength training or another example is that I love playing competitive soccer/football but I do usually need at least 2 days to recover nowadays.

Sounds very interesting! Nice to see you are still motivated to improve. I´m sure it´ll be great!

It was a long wait  . Those little teasers and feature discussions were missed so much! Finally we have something to chew and it seems like a big bone :poultry_leg: ! Thanks :folded_hands: !

This sounds very interesting, keen on hearing more :tada: ! So we don’t need to worry about ISM z2 discussion any longer and can have a TR z2 thread instead :winking_face_with_tongue:

Some questions arise:

Please could you drop a word for us multi sport athletes (esp. triathlon)? Do you have models for other sports like swimming and running (with or without power) and are these models integrated in the overall system?

Do you have triathlon plans or only cycling plans that profit from that system and how are the other disciplines considered or even adapted?

And maybe I don’t need a plan at all and can use the new system more impromptu style like TrainNow…would that have drawbacks…?

Some more questions I’d enjoy you discuss with @Nate_Pearson:

  • Do you plan on adding a LLM to your system that you can chat with and if so how individual to my specific training history would it answer (maybe like one question per day to save load/cost)?
  • Are there models trained on all workouts of all athletes and are there models specific for me? How does the system distinguish between what works best for most vs what works best for my specific case?
  • How did you train and validate the models? What parameters define success?
  • Can the model find blind spots in my training? For example suggest workouts or a training plan/approach I never tried before but that would probably benefit me the most?
  • Does the model categorize me (TR Career => “Power Ranking” comes to mind)? For example based on my data I’m probably this or that phenotype (fast twitch or slow twitch dominant or something like that) and suggest or even better compare intensity vs volume driven adaptations for me and show me different paths/outcomes?
  • I assume cadence is included in the model. Does the system recognize if I benefit from low cadence intervals and could recommend low cadence intervals?

So many features and cool stuff you could think of…

Hopefully this handles outdoor/non-TR rides with no “coming soon” or other asterisks…

Look interesting for sure. Signed up.

While I obviously ridden a bike off and on most of my life (I’m a 56 year old male, not in great shape, but not bad, most of my exercise of the last few years is working at a warehouse, so getting well over 10k steps a day), I didn’t get serious until very recently, and not really serious until I got my trainer until June/July this year. Around June 25th, I did a ramp test on Zwift, got like 99 or a bit less. I was 127 according to TrainerRoad when I started here in September, and now at 143 (December 25th), which is what 12% or so increase over 3 months, without doing nearly as much as I should have, skipping lots of workouts, probably would have been a bit better were I more on target with the training (I had 2 jobs at the time to be fair to myself). So it’ll be interesting to see how this new improvement to the program might help me get better.

I just finished my last plan on December 21st, and was going to start a new one today, but it gave me a red day today, so Saturday it’ll be.

Interested to see how the new Zone 2 will be.

Also would like to see, maybe I want to target my 5 minute power. Continuous improvement, instead of goal focused, though Train Now basically does that, but just toss a workout every day into my Zwift, and go from there. I’d be curious if W’Bal will ever feature into the plan, or if it’s just looking at that behind the scenes to help decide yellow and red days. Could add perhaps Green days, where you are extra well ready for a harder workout then it originally put on your calendar, though I’d guess Adaptive Training already adjusts the workout it has on the calendar to be a better fit, and this new AI will do even better?

This sounds like quite the update and I’m looking forward to it, but I’m still curious how this can be as effective (suggested workouts, adaptations, etc.) as possible without integration of sleep and recovery metrics (i.e., my oura ring data)? This is still a key missing piece for me.

Looking forward to learning more about this, but the marketing is a bit over the top for me. So this new TR AI is 27% more likely to give me the perfect workout compared to Adaptive Training which gave me “The Right Workout, Every Time?”

I wonder if it’ll be a HR based training option like TrainerDay has. Probably my favourite feature of that app.

+1. Would love that.

Possibly. But I’d be surprised as @Jonathan & Hannah Otto were critiquing HR based training pretty hard on the pod last week.

See the latest podcast where that data was poo-pooed. Better to ask you subjectively how you feel and then see how well you perform, as they do now.

Does this mean we’ll get a PDC graph now?

Hello very good news, but when is planned the release?

Beyond stoked for this! 600+ hours of TR training in 2025, and I have seen great improvements in my performance. For my training, I lean heavily into my prescribed TR workouts, and I am always looking for that extra power increase. I am looking forward to seeing the updates and improvements to an already stellar product.

Sounds exciting and looking forward to it.

One thing I would like to see in the future is being able to create a training plan that includes weights and possibly other items like stretching, etc. The rides are just a piece of the picture.
