Strava does still count the total milage/k’s but the additional miles are only seen by you and not the public
Distance on TR workouts really doesn’t make much sense. In Erg mode you can be in almost any gear you want and there is no entry for tire size so the “distance” reported is essentially an arbitrary number. Hours or TSS are much more relevant. Strava summarizes hours but not TSS.
push it to strava and boost TR presence!
What are your data sources?
A couple. My Garmin watch is no problem. However, my Stages Dash computer (which uploads to Stages Link which is really a version of Today’s Plan) can currently only send to Strava or TrainingPeaks. Strava will forward to TR but that is the link I want to get rid of.
This +1. I need Wahoo sync.
Strava played a HUGE roll in me getting serious about cycling and for that, I will forever be indebted to the platform. However, after the crap they pulled with Relive and the lack of meaningful improvements over the last few years, I’m considering not renewing my premium membership.
In terms of posting my TR sessions, they all go to Strava but I keep most of them private… partly because I don’t want to fill my friend’s feeds with trainer rides but mostly because I have some performance goals I want to hit before going full frontal ![]()
I push everything to strava public. Lots of Zwift races and more recently TR as I’ve started that. Some people don’t “get” indoor training/racing, but that’s fine. I don’t get any negative comments on Strava, but it comes up sometimes on Saturday team rides. I get more flak on Zwift racing than generic trainer (TR) sessions. Most of the guys with the negative comments are slowish…
I also like transparency in my riding/training. It really helps in the Zwift racing world so people can see my real-world results are in line with my virtual world power and weight. I think it also helps with perceptions in the real world when people see the work you are putting in, especially if you are making big improvements. If people I’m racing against want to stalk me in Strava to understand my strengths and weaknesses, I’m flattered.
I just started using TR and am pushing them public to Strava. I figure I am just sharing training info with my mates. If TR works for me then I want them to know so they can get on board too.
I only have about 20 people I follow and the same who follow me on Strava though and I actually know them all well.
No negative comments yet but I have done interval training indoors over winter for years.
I push all my TR rides to Strava and have never gotten a negative comment (apx 150 following me), and in fact have gotten compliments from a couple people who’ve seen me put in an interval session after a day’s commute (25ish mile round trip). Strava isn’t the best for analytics, but it’s nice to have a comprehensive overview of hours that I’ve put in over the years
I post it on strava since getting stuff like kudos is pretty motivating to me. I have a log of my rides in GoldenCheetah (and also TR) for analysis, strava is for the social stuff only.
My quandary with this is that I want my partner to see my TR stuff (and sometimes morning dog walks etc), because the two of us are often in different geographical locations so sharing the stuff lets us both know what we’ve been up to that day, but I don’t want other followers to see all that “boring” stuff.
It used to be easy as neither of us had any other Strava followers, but now we’ve both become more sociable Strava-wise I think I’ll turn the volume down and keep most stuff private as it feels like oversharing to me.
I push it all to Strava, but it’s all private by default. I pick and choose, a little bit randomly, on what I make public just to keep my fellow riders guessing ![]()
I push my TR workouts to Strava but they get put to private.
- My numbers in terms of power aren’t impressive
- In ERG mode speed/distance is meaningless and someone that might not know that would think I’m really slow.
The crap talk will cease once they are dropped. I get this ALL THE TIME - F it don’t change anything.
(i do hide power tests)
it would not be automatic or anything but I think you could share the private ride via strava to at least get an image w/ miles, time, and elevation?
I just deleted strava altogether. It wasnt adding anything of value to my life.
I don’t really understand why someone wouldn’t want to post TR workouts on Strava. Strava is how I discovered TR and I’m extremely glad I found it. As fairly new cyclist ( less than 18 months), I tend to use Strava as a training resource. I follow riders that are more fit, faster and better than me. If their doing something that I think might make me better then I research it and determine if it’s something I should add.
I say post them up.
We have a club for work and it gets me on the leaderboard so yeah I sync to strava ![]()
yeah, I like being on the leaderboard. As far as anything else, I have had segments where I thought I rode them quickly, and then the kom is almost twice as fast as my time. There are some people that have an amazing sprint and can do it for a long time, that’s for sure. Or there is drafting, motorpacing, or ebike involvement, I don’t know.
I started using strava so it would push to TR. Now I have an 830, I like the fact that it does all that without any intervention from me. The one annoyance I have with pushing TR to Strava is that I ride my trainer in a low gear, so I have 1 hour rides where I went 9 miles. Ridiculous. If it was possible not to push TR to Strava, I would.
