TrainerRoad CEO Communication

Only if one actually bothers reading them.

“Adaptive Training is currently in closed beta but is coming soon for every TrainerRoad athlete. If you’d like to register for priority access to the closed beta, sign up at www.TrainerRoad.com/AT.”

That’s what I meant why one should perhaps read more than the thumbnail or headline.

I would not change a thing. You have a successful record going this route already so unless there is very good reason to change then I wouldn’t. My guess is that many will continue to welcome the open honest communication. Some will not like the fact that they feel teased and that exact dates cannot be given. I 100% agree you say more than most if not all CEOs so don’t give away anything damaging to TR, we like seeing your success as a company.

I am pretty understanding and know that major projects take years, not days, weeks, or even months (I am an engineer and started a project on 2004 and it is almost half built today) so I get it more than most.

I also LOVE the sense that I believe TR tests the heck out of the software before release, is doing a closed beta, then open beta, then full release. It is my impression as a user that TRs concern as a company is to get it right, and not “we need to make a quick release to keep customers happy with something shiny and new, who cares if it isn’t fully vetted yet”. I can wait an extra month to make sure it works properly in beta, it won’t kill me (others on the forum may kill me for saying that though). Bottom line is that knowing I hop on the bike and start the TR software without issue is very important to me. I simply don’t have time to fuss with bugs, restart 3 times to work right, etc.

Good, glad we can agree then that the headline is wrong.

Actually we don’t. The headline is correct. AT is there and people are using it. Like with Train Now. The full functions are under closed beta testing by again, users.

Meh, beforehand we would have to start with the forum rules for you. until then, you can use train now.

Well…this discussion seems to have veered off the tracks known as “reality.”

Here’s where I exit.

Yup, let’s get back to the poll.

Well I appreciate what @Nate_Pearson is doing, or trying to do.

(I don’t think I have an easy way of communicating with any other CEO of products that I use.)

I think keep doing what you are doing Nate, it has worked well so far

Without a doubt IMO, you are the most active CEO I know of any training platform. @baronbiosys from Xert deserves a lot of credit too.

The feeling I always get from TR is that you guys care. You totally get what it’s like to be a customer. I agree it’s difficult to know how to communicate…too much…too little. Just keep doing what you do. I think you get it right.

I feel cheated then, I had my final dose a few weeks ago, and all I got was a day off training because my one armed riding skills weren’t up to snuff. Oddly enough though, right after the shot, the 5G on my phone activated…

As an on and off member since Jan 2012, I can say you stewardship of TR has been exceptional. There are always areas to target for improvement, and you are doing so with good communication and added features.
Keep up the great work.

I personally really like knowing the key features that are being worked on, even if the dates that those features will be fully rolled out are unknown.
What I would really like to know is what are items 3 and 4 (and 5…) on the road map. Once AT has been rolled out and is working well (ok, that admittedly may take a long time), and once group workouts are overhauled from the current minimum viable product to something closer to the end product that you have envisioned, what are the next big steps @Nate_Pearson?

@Nate_Pearson just need to turn this into something like TED TV, where you do a youtube channel that is live 24/7.

Nates in a meeting and they are talking about rolling out AT in 2 weeks to the masses, if you were watching the stream, you would be up to date. Then all the people who want to be up to speed will have the ability to be in the know.

I love what Amber said in the last podcast about you guys under promising and over delivering. So far I think TR strikes a great middle ground for that. For me when TR has an update its the closest thing to being a kid on Christmas morning again but Santa is putting speed under the Christmas tree. And to an extent with AT I do sort of feel like a 6 year old kid who woke up on Christmas morning and sees this giant box under the tree but my parents wont let me open it yet. But I do understand software and anything technology related takes time to do right and Id much rather wait for something to be done right.

For me personality, if something is purely in the speculation or the idea phase I wouldn’t want to know about that because I think its important for you guys to have big ideas and if some don’t pan out that should be encouraged, but if you announce them and they don’t work out it could be meet with disappointment. However, if its currently under development and showing promise I love when you share. For instance you mentioned you started working on AT 3 years ago and if that was brought up on the podcast then and not implemented until now I would feel letdown a little. So i guess just a really long way to say keep doing what your doing.

I voted for the “current model”.
I know that there are vague hints at what is going on in the background and things TR is working on to get out to its customers but it would be nice to have somewhere to go to have insight as to project board to look at.
Could have 3 categories:
(To Be) Lauched (Ie. Group Workouts)

Testing (Ie. Adaptive Training, IoS and Android Beta Testing)

Outstanding/In the Works (Ie. Projects you are looking into, Known Bugs)

“Give us your kanban board please, thanks” :stuck_out_tongue:

@Nate_Pearson You keep doing you! Continue to trust yourself and believe in your vision for TR. Contrary to what some might expect, you do not owe us anything in terms of release dates, roadmaps, etc… And you are 100% right, you already share way more than you need to or probably should. Again, you be you!

I’d like to get a better merge between AT and Group Workouts.

I basically want to jump on my bike and do workouts with people where it all feels the same for us (even if the exact percents are different; we just need the interval length to be the same).

I’d also like to build in some social motivation without leading to burn out and over doing it.

The mobile team is working on:

  • New plans implementation
  • Better support for the visually impaired
  • Workout Creator Revamp
  • Group Workouts/Team improvements

Once those are done they are full steam on run/swim.

We’re trying to hire more engineers now to build a new team that can help take some of the workload in that “progression”.

Just when ever I don’t have meetings or other things to do. Plus I like the forum :-D.

I do have to be in front of my computer as I find typing all these messages on my phone takes too long.
