I didn’t see that. Possible that it was said but I missed it.
The way I read this is, the L6.0 threshold after your detection date is what it’ll give you if you decline the FTP increase. If you accept, the 6.1% increase seems about right to place you back in the vicinity of Level 3-4.
For my own test case, on Jan 1 in the beta I was given a 318w FTP, about 5% over my previous 302w, which placed threshold work beyond my capabilities, so I reduced it to 309. For a brief time it showed a prediction of 315 for the following month, but then that functionality was removed for manually-entered FTPs. I twiddled some knobs (Z2 & SS up), struggled on a threshold workout (still!), & yesterday it offered me 314, which seemed a reasonable adjustment given the constraints of the system, & given that, in the event of declining the FTP increase (which I did), my first workout in the next block is the L3.5 Warlow -2: a 5w increase in my Workout Intensity Multiplier would probably place me back at L3 as well.
Thanks so much. I’m inexperienced, so I was curious to get an opinion. Seems like a glitch in the system from the rollover to the new version. The A race was always there. I can fix it easily by copying in my last two week taper. If it happens again, I’ll contact support. Much appreciated.
How many races do you have on your calendar? With the new system you can only have one race per plan. If you have more than one race then you need a plan that finishes for each race.
Oh, okay. Thanks. I did have two A races in my current plan from the old system, one of which was completed and the other, the one that I am referring to that is coming up. Maybe that’s what caused the glitch. Thanks!
@Nate_Pearson I’ve been seeing some interesting behaviors with AI FTP Detection. Thought maybe you (or the team) could take a look and let me know what is the cause of the behavior (or if it’s a bug).
I started a new plan from TR, as I finished my base plan from another source and was ready to get into some Threshold/Vo2max intervals. Even accepted the AI FTP of 271 re
My predicted FTP: 276 (seems reasonable)
Played around with Training Approach: 279 (nice :D)
This morning: Did Daemon, rated it “Easy”: 263 (What?)
When I put the Training Approach back to “Balanced”, the prediction went up to 271.
Not hating on the system, just a bit confused to be honest
I can just imagine the number of Dr. Coggins gaskets that would be blown if he had a chance to give his opinion the new AiFTP. It sure would be entertaining, can tell you that for free!
Hello, I have a problem with the AI FTP. I use two different power measurement methods. At home, I have been using a Wahoo KICKR Core for six weeks, and at work, I use a Schwinn 800IC with Virtual Power, also for six weeks. There is consistently a 50-watt difference between the two bikes and measurement methods. Each time I switch bikes, I perform a ramp test to determine my FTP and adjust my workouts accordingly. Currently, the AI shows my FTP as 341 watts, but my actual FTP is significantly lower. If I accept this higher FTP setting, I won’t be able to complete any workouts. What can I do to properly use the AI FTP and set appropriate future workouts?
Yeah, what annoys me is that the popular meaning of “AI” is limited to “fancy chatbot”. What Trainerroad has built is far more intelligent, interesting and at the same time daunting. We have cold hard probability without a sycophantic LLM to soften the blow. I think, especially with all of the questions this brings up, it would be really powerful to have both.
Your calendar is private. Not enough detail in your screenshots for a review.
Fitness improvements aren’t linear. And there’s a pretty long lag time for some adaptations.
I would assume that you put in a good base over the past few months. You were supposed to get low increases during base. And if your work is more build focused now, you should expect to benefit from that base you put in earlier.
Its one of the problems with building a tool that tells everyone what would increase FTP the most RIGHT NOW. In any given 28 day window, the greatest FTP gains are generally going to be to abandon the base-build-specialty format, and instead do a FTP block. Except this will give a lower max FTP over time, because the other work matters too, even if the benefits of those phases are delayed.
This isn’t a problem with AIFTP, it’s a problem with using two different ways to measure power. Might be worth using the search function, and or picking one device.
@MarcinWaw, have a dig through the manuals or other support available for each of your devices. You may be able to recalibrate the slope (sensitivity) of one device so that it can closely match the other in the power range that matters to your training. Customer support for the device you’re adjusting should be able to help.
