Trainer road and training peaks

How to work out CTL/ATL/TSB etc. is well known and implemented in many places and you can’t patent a formula. The terms are trademarked which is why other tools use different names (fitness = CTL, fatigue = ATL, form = TSB etc.) and “training load” = TSS.

CTL (fitness) is normally a 42 day exponentially weighted moving average of training load. So fitness gradually decays. You can see the curve if you look at your fitness into the future with no planned workouts. ATL (fatigue) is normally a 7 day exponentially weighted moving average so it decays much faster. I believe TP uses a non-exponential factor for ATL so it will be a little different compared to other tools.

You can manually enter TSS from other activities and it will show up in TR’s TSS graph. In any event, I think the utility of the PMC in-stride is overstated. I find most value in it as a planning tool, and a little bit more in terms of fatigue management for a coach who isn’t interacting with an athlete in-person on a daily basis.
